yes she was amazing and who would have thought a voice like that would have been undiscovered after all this time . good thing she went on the show . american idol is kind of stupid because they exclude the older folks and I think that is stupid because we could have some other undiscovered talent in america we just dont know .
Please don't take me wrong, because I am "all for" this woman going as far as she wants to go. However, even as beautiful as her voice is...there are voices in many choirs across our great nation that are just as beautiful. Women who chose to raise families instead of having careers, or that the door just didn't open for. It is a shame that there isn't much recognition for all the beautiful voices I have heard in my lifetime....and many from "older" women. But having said that.....I say...GO SUSAN GO!
Would this voice have been as "amazing" and "incredible" had it emanated from a Victoria's Secret model or a Hooter's Girl? Is it only because she's not classically "attractive" or because she's so old (hmmmph, 40ish is NOT old, thank you) that she's generating this much interest?
Don't get me wrong, she has a fine voice. Wonderful, even. Her song choice was not only right for her vocal abilities but right for her circumstances, in that it made her story more personal. That being said, I think her story and the wonderful "discovery" of this lady is "incredible" for all the wrong and shallow reasons.

And that makes me sad.
I hear what you are saying and there is (I think) some truth to it. Had she looked like Sarah Brightman she might very go on to win the competition (as Susan Boyle may well do) but I suspect she would not have gotten the world-wide attention. Like it or not, we equate a beautiful voice with a beautiful face and body - that's just the way it is - and the fact that Susan Boyle is older, heavier, and rather plain is what gives this story it's Cinderella aspect (though even Cinderella was young and beautiful).
If you think she was good on 'Britain's Got Talent', wait til you hear this. For a gal that ain't never been kissed, she has all the sensuousness and earthiness of Etta James, Billie Holiday, Eartha Kitt, or any other torch singer you can name. This is from a charity CD made 10 years ago.

I just hope no one tries to coerce her into an Extreme Make-over situation. I'd hate to see folks try to make her feel she'd be more "perfect" or "acceptable" if she'd just...
We have so many pressures on women to somehow "fix" themselves because somehow, breathing, thinking, displaying compassion and being gracious and humble on top of it all just isn't good enough.
Of course, if she wanted one, that would be a different story.
For the record, her "Cry Me a River" is fantastic! Torch singer, good phrase. Nice find!
