Look at it this way, for each additional child one of these families has, something is taken away from the many that they already have. Could be time with the parents, food, clothing, luxuries, or all of the above. I don't agree with having more children than you can easily afford, whether you are a minority living in a small inner-city apartment, or a fundamentalist white family living in the rural south. I give the Duggers credit for supporting themselves financially, but my point, and the point of other posters is that most quiverfull families can not afford to live like that. The Duggers are the poster family for this movement, and I think it is misleading. Is your family part of this movement? You seem very defensive.

Okay, I never thought of that. If this is true, I apologize if I offended you, wanderintonc. I mean no disrespect to your church. Just making a point about how children of poverty suffer.

I don't mean to offend anyone either. I do think it is great that the Duggers support themselves, and they seem very happy. I don't agree with a lot of their beliefs, but it isn't any of my business. It does become my business, however, if one of these families breeds them selves into poverty and becomes reliant on government aid.

Thing is they are whoring their kids just like the rest of the families on TLC. They have books, videos, pics of their kids to buy, meet and greets with them, etc. They got lucky in their sect if it wasn't for TLC they would be in the same situation as the others.
and I agree with you nobody should have more children then they can afford to take care of properly

No offense here I'm not in the same church. I just didn't want to see those Bates folks critizised for things like a dump house (from the pics and video, it's kept up) and welfare (which they do not accept). Some large families are poor, but so are some small families, and some medium-sized ones also. Large family = poor is no more accurate than small family = poor. It's an unfair stereotype, which I would hope we have progressed beyond in these times.

no one is saying that. A family of 10 living on $40K is poorer than a family of 4 living on $40K. That is a fact, not a stereotype.

I already said I did not mean dump as in unclean
Nobody said that large families are poor. The argument was that a lot of the people in the quiverful movement are poor.

plus, they don't seem to stress college education, so they may be creating a cycle of poverty.

I watched this show for the first time this afternoon. This family works due to the dad being able to adequately financially provide (even before the sitcom....thus the Senate race) plus the strong spiritual teachings. The kids are polite, helpful and loving towards each other. People can scoff at that point....but it's just the truth. It is one of the ONLY reality families I actually formed an mmediately respect for. Maybe it's the parents....maybe it's God. Either way....it obviously works.

I don't know what Michelle Duggar is doing, but she is starting to look sorta sexy.
