I apologize if someone already posted a similar thread, but my daughter and I were noticing recently that waaay too many of these network shows now have to have all this sappy, moody music playing in the backgound - worst offenders being Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, and Ghost Whisperer. Does anyone else know what I mean? It's just gotten ridiculous, I know they are trying to "set the mood", but that doesn't take the place of simple good acting. We were trying to determing which show started this "trend". My daughter says it was Dawson's Creek or Friday Night Lights. I say they're all copying off of Cold Case.
I love Cold Case's select music, myself. And "they" do a mighty stellar job of matching the songs with the right era of the storyline. Terrific theme song, too (sounds like Midnight Syndicate). Personally, I never liked the music in Grey's; however, I just don't like that kind of music, anyway.
What I can't stand are the occasional cutsey theme songs, like Friends, Cheers. Medium has a great one, so did Sopranos (and they had some great background songs, although I wouldn't call most of the selections 'mood music').
Woke up this morning, with a boom-boom in his hand. . . .
Location: I will be escaping Suck City and landing in Tampa in December

I think it was better on the ABC shows before they started to plug the music at the end of the shows. It was much better when you'd hear a cool song and then spend the next 4 or 5 days trying to find info about it.
It doesn't bother me at all actually. I've found a lot of decent music watching Lost, Burn Notice and other shows.
I have worked with several girls who had every song ever played on Grey's Anatomy on their ipods. Some of it was pretty good. Some not so much.
I remember being annoyed when MY WIFE AND KIDS did not have a theme song.
How many other shows did not have a theme song?
