why is it a waste to watch something like this? what, do you only watch PBS and Masterpiece Theater or something. I do agree w/ everyone else that it's rather silly to make such a bold statement about something you've never watched. but you know what they say about those who make assumptions...

I was over at my sister's place and caught a couple of episodes of this show. the only that really struck me was the one w/ Ebony. she's definitely suffered some long term consequences as a result of getting pregnant. she didn't even get to graduate w/ her class, which is a pretty big deal for many kids. I suppose she could still go into the Air Force if she didn't marry her loser boyfriend, but it will be difficult since she would be a single parent (does the AF even allow single moms to enlist?).

the great thing was that I was watching the show w/ my sister and my 13yo niece. she was definitely not thrilled about what she saw. the show may not deter all kids from having sex at a young age, but I think it will make an impact w/ many. it would be nice to see updates or to have a show dealing a/ young moms, but I got from the title of the show that it was more about the pregnancy and how it affected the kids' lives and not as much about the raising of the child. w/ a show dealing w/ young moms, I'd like to see something very comprehensive, maybe something that followed mother and child from birth to 18 years later (like that show that's been following a grop of people since they were kids)

And you're basing your assumption on what....I think it's sad that you posted a comment on a thread that you admitted you hadn't read about a show that you admitted you haven't been/nor have any interest in watching.

Let me break it down for you:

You coming onto a thread and posting a remark saying "I haven't read any of the posts or watched the show BUT" is the equivalent to me saying "I haven't read this book or read any of the reviews BUT here is my opinion." You can't have a valid opinion on something you chose not to know anything about.

If you don't understand that, then watching a garbage television show is really the least of your worries. And that's all I have to say about that...

Her story was the one that struck me the most too because it seemed like she had the most going for her before her pregnancy. There was one scene when she was sitting at the table with him and had to keep reprimanding him to do his homework; her face looked like she just realized the she was having a child from a child and was pretty much going to be raising the baby alone.

Again, saw the previews so yes I saw read what it was about and it was enough for me. Listen I'm an adult and have kids myself and have seen many shows on teenage pregnancy there is not going to be some new revelation about teenage pregnancy that I don't already know (been there and done that). So yes I can make an assumption about a show especially if the same network aired similar type shows. But whatever.

If you do decide to go through with viewing it do try to stick with the entire show - in the episodes I saw, the beginning part of the show did indeed make it seem kind of fun - but keep in mind these are simply the attitudes/reflections of the girls and their friends at the beginning. As the pregnancy continues and eventually, they have a baby out of the deal, they certainly are made aware that life isn't all they thought it would be. There is more to babies than the baby showers your friends think is fun. To get the point of the show - you have to be able to juxtapose the attitudes of the teens when they were first interviewed with the reality of what life really was at the end....That to me is what made the show interesting and more realistic. I think many teens do probably think it's no big deal to pop out a baby and go on with life as though nothing changed. Then there is reality.

Well I guess tonights episode is the finale and the couple is considering adoption...looks good.

Last weeks episode with the high school drop-out and her boyfriend living in Grandma's double wide rental trailer was food for thought. Poor Granny had to pretty much put her own life aside to help her pregnant adult daughter and GD If the mother was already that poor, so to speak, why have another baby at her age? I guess the son and grandson will have fun growing up together.

It was kinda funny when at the end of the show the boyfriends mother could all of a sudden offer up the whole top level of her house to the kids

I have mixed feelings about this show, as I can imagine it could entice a teenage girl to get pregnant in hopes of getting on an episode?

I disagree wholeheartedly! It is nauseating all the teenage pregnancies that still occur when they are close to 100 percent preventable! It obviously is being re-examined per this show and other networks covering the topic.

Let's get back to basics...a perscription for birth control pills can do wonders

Face it - there will always be stupid people (teens and adults alike) - we haven't figured out a cure for THAT yet....anyone stupid enough to do that would most likely have ended up pregant anyway (just looking for a reason). Perhaps universal karma will balance out that situation with teens studying extra hard in the hopes to be on TV for Jeopardy! Teen Tournament....

I agree....I was getting teary myself. I am soo glad they went through with it. Interestingly enough, of all the couples shown, this is the couple that was most mature and that have the biggest chance of staying together and probably had the most to offer as parents....because of that, they were also the ones who were selfless enough to give their daughter the best that they could. Even when that meant giving her up....

^^ By far the most mature.

I really hope that their parents lay off of them a bit. Mom was way out of line buying a bassenet, calling her daughter names, not signing the adoption papers, giving her the silent treatment. Not to mention getting pulled over for DUI.

The young man's father was not that better. Saying that all the baby will need is "love" and that the son was "not the cowboy he thought he was" if he were to go through with the adoption. Implying that the son was not being a man...

The young parents were so spot on and I hope they get the heck out of that house, get the education they desire and never look back. They recognized that they have it bad and want better for their daughter.
