Too many of these young girls think its fun to dress the baby but they are not thinking about that money will take away from the stuff they used to get. "mom can I get new shoes? No the baby needs diapers." I have saw this first hand and it is an eye opener for the teen. And if the guy does stick around that doesnt mean he is going to help out. He will still hang out with his friends while you are at home with the baby.

No, he wasn't around from the very beginning. I think he called her and cursed her out and that his was his only appearance on the show.

I just saw a couple of episodes of this series over the weekend. It's very disturbing. For a show that is supposed to deter teenaged girls from having unprotected sex and not getting pregnant, they sure are failing at it. They are showing girls that for the most part have good support systems and boyfriends that stay with them. Most of the girls have gotten their own apartments and nice furniture. I wouldn't say this is a good determent.

I only saw one girl who had her own place (but I haven't watched all the episodes) and she said that she brought that furniture with her own money saving her $7 an hour paycheck.

I saw several episodes....only one had the "couple" having their own place (I missed the beginning of that one so not sure how that came about). In most episodes, the parents were struggling to work it out. They were certainly not the "happy couple" or happy family they expected to be during the earlier interviews. Once the baby was born, things generally got pretty difficult. Now, were they out on the street? No. These were generally teens who had family to help them out. But, that said, the help they got was not necessarily what they thought it would be (ie their own mom's babysitting for free, while they continued on with their carefree teenaged life). No one got up with those infants every 3 hours but the teens, they all had to sacrifice activities they enjoyed and alter their immediate plans for the future (college, Air Force etc). I think it was pretty realistic. Most of us, if our teens were in that situation, would not put them out. We might hope they made a different choice but most likely we wouldn't pack their bags and change the locks either. I don't know how I would have reacted had my DD come to me at 16 and told me she was pregnant. I certainly wouldn't have been pleased about the situation but she is still my child and I would not have turned her out. I will watch the new episode on Thursday, from the previews, these teens seemed to be more mature than the ones shown previously - they at least both seem to understand it won't be easy.

Wow, I didn't get that at all. The three episodes that I have seen the boyfriend was only present in two of them and in both of those cases the boyfriends were complete jerks who put hangin with their friends above 'helping' with their babies. In all three episodes the girls had to do the work and were the ones juggling school/work/baby while their boyfriends slacked. Granted, two of them started out with stars in their eyes - but by the end both girls were realizing the horrible mistake they had made.

I have to agree. I have yet to see an episode that makes it seem like getting pregnant at 16 is a good thing. The thing I have seen is conflict and stress they face and the fathers, not dads, show at that age they need to grow up.

It's not glorified in my opinion either. I think the show illustrates the hardship that is put on anyone without enough life experiences to become a parent. That can be true for anyone at any age but when you are 16 and have not even completed your high school education, the cards are stacked against you. I'm not saying that you can't overcome the barrier, I just think that it a lot for someone at that age to have to cope with.
I felt especially bad for Whitney's grandmother. Not only did she have to content with her grown daughter being pregnant, but she her granddaughter at the same time too! Bless her heart for giving up her bedroom. Whitney and her "husband" had no respect for the mess that they created in the house

Haven't read the posts on this thread but why is this show on? Teenage pregnancy shouldn't be glorified they should do a 2 year show where they follow these people for months at a time and show what really happens to the kids having kids.

Me personally I am all for spaying and neutering at birth then having it reversed once you are 18.

Mandatory spay and neuter the stupid...they do it for animals why not teens...a lot of these losers go on disability and drain resources...let's see how happy they are in 6 years living as trailer trash......
