I was happy with Season Two. Alan Ball indicated there was a reason for no Eric in the finale. We're going to have mega Eric next season. Like "true blood" Eric is addictive.

I bought the eight pack of paperback books, read the first one and am partially through the second one.

I'm not impressed with the books, so far. They seem lightweight compared to the show. Now, that could be because they can do a lot more character development in a 12 hour show than an author can do in a small book (each book representing a TV show season).

Or, maybe each were written with different audiences in mind. The books seem to be aimed at teenaged girls and the TV show seems to be aimed at adults and I'm not a teen.

It doesn't help that the books are written in the first person so you can't have a scene without Sookie and her perspective. Frankly, there are a lot of good scenes in the TV show that Sookie is not in and the relationship of those other characters to each other makes for great drama. It seems to me that when the author writes in the first person, the author doesn't want you, the reader, to evaluate those other relationships. They just want their lead character to do the work for you. Think of some of the dramatic scenes in the TV show, between these characters, that didn't include Sookie, especially the conflict scenes:

Eric and Lafayette
Lafayette and Tara
Tara and Eggs
Jason and Steve Newlin
Steve Newlin and Sarah Newlin
Jason and Eddie The Vampire
Bill and Eric
Tara and Mary Ann
Tara and her mother and Miss Janette
Jason, Sam and Andy
Sam and Daphne
Sam and Eric and Arlene's kids
Sam, Lafayette, Terry and the customers of Merlotte's
Hoyt and his mother
Hoyt and Jessica
Hoyt's mother and Jessica
Jessica and Bill

Can you imagine either not having those wonderfully dramatic relationship scenes or underplaying them because Sookie wasn't present to speak of them in the first person?

Does anyone who has read the books and seen the TV show, like the books better? Why?

I enjoyed the books. As seems typical with multiple book series I liked the last few less. I read them well before there was a series. I am not a teenager. The books are what they are. I liked the first season and am fine with some changes to the books but also feel if Alan Ball wanted to do a vampire season that was so significantly different (second season) from the books he should have gotten off his lazy azzz and written his own story. I felt the second season was like a bunch of shock jocks and FOX tv writers took over to write to some lowest common denominator.

I don't know if you guys realize it but they began to re-run True Blood from the first episode last Saturday at 9:00P ET.

Good news for those of us who missed the 1st season! HBO is playing the entire first season every Saturday at 7:00. I saw episodes 1 and 2 and now episode 3 is on tonight. Glad they are at least filling in the time between the season finale and the start of season 3. And I don't have to try and find a website that will show it without downloading a virus.

On the show "The Office", they had Pam and Jim's wedding and Pam's sister was the minister's wife from True Blood. It made me crazy because I could not figure out where I knew her from.
