Sheldon is autistic, or that is how Jim P. is portrayed. There are may characters these days portrayed in the same manner, it is a phases and it will pass. Some other examples of shows that use this are Bones, Community, and Doc Martin. While some similarities are made I think Community and Doc Martin bring to light more of the struggle of being autistic. Personally I think John G. whines to much and is annoying, I had a thing for Sara G. when I was young, until I learned she was a lesbian, so I could just be resenting him out of jealousy.

The show has said in the past that the character of Sheldon is not supposed to be autistic but Jim Parsons in many interviews has said that Sheldon exhibits Asperger like symptoms.
Having said that, BBT is as strong in the demo as it is in viewers, coming in at #3, only one spot down from total viewers. And since the network mantra is to milk a show until it's dead, I agree... hard to see it going anywhere for now.
It is as much Jim Parsons' call as CBS' really, this show might as well be called Sheldon !
They could ante up to $10 million/episode but if he tires of the part...its curtain call for BBT
The show would certainly struggle if Kaley or Johnny left but might survive and still rake in the coveted demographics, not so without Jim

I think the show needs Kaley and Jim. I dont think it could survive with just Jim because there needs to be a straight man and his on screen chemistry with Kaley is incredible. They play off of each other perfectly.
I would have enjoyed a few mins of maintenance repairmen down in elevator shaft heard saying, "looks like a bomb went off in here". A few apt complex tenants, Sheldon and crew, and apt manager gathered and whatever smirks/comments that may ensue 😃

I would think it would open up enough dialog that it would help fill up some time.
Imagine Sheldon's claim to a spot in the elevator or his constantly cleaning off the buttons he has to push.
Yeah Sabresfan I am just being anal. But the elevator has been broke for nine years next month.
That little detail doesn't touch the fact that two professors are still sharing a two bedroom apartment, even after one of them got married.
* Am I wrong about this? A quick Google says L moved out I gave up on this show a couple of years ago and just watch reruns now.. Anyway, of course I understand why the writers wanted them to live together, but it was harder and harder for me to suspend disbelief..
I find it interesting that while being surrounded by genius IQ characters who are 'quirky' Penny is more down to Earth than the rest of the cast.
But, Kaley Cuoco is the actor that is probably the most eccentric of the group.
