I loved Rap City. When I was in HS I would look forward to coming home each day to listen to 2 hours of rap and actually see intelligent interviews and hosts (unlike 106 & Park). And I remember when they had throwback Thursday. Wow I feel old.
Another influencing fact is that the new rappers (ones who have debuted since 2007) have all sucked. I'd rather listen to country than MIMS or Gucci Mane. It really has gotten to the point where it's all about just leeching off of trends in styles and content. For years it seemed like the best rappers were the new and fresh ones. I can remember when Xzibit, Lil Wayne, T.I., Eminem, etc all came out and I'd still rather listen to them to these new clowns

I hardly watch BET anymore. The award show was just PITIFUL, I thought Jamie would turn it out and make it fun but that was wishful thinking. The tribute to MJ they did was ridiculous but at least they got Janet on there.
To me BET has been a tragedy for some time now even since the Donny days because they use to show late night booty shaking videos and gangsta rap. They use to play Luke videos and I just couldn't understand it. Music takes many dips, turns, and in this case dives. What was up with the show that glorified murderers and people with illegal backgrounds as if it was saying to young black kids go out and try to be like them and or if you want to be a gangster like in Scarface go for it (not sure why they couldn't show scholars and or men and women of color that made it big the legal way). I didn't know that they even existed until I watched it at my hair dressers. She was so into the show she even taped them.
The Nefie and Frankie show was just too much and I was offended initially because dirty laundry doesn't need to be aired. But I think the first show gave hope to people like her who were given little hope in their life to be anything they want to be. So I can't really down the show. Keisha had a dream and is now living it.
The comedy shows was something to look forward to when you needed a laugh. The jokes were less funny overtime. But they should have kept it and or at least run reruns from the shows.
The Wendy Williams show I am not feeling it. Wonder if they will make their version of the ATL housewives. Memba the show they had when they had I think 3-4 lady panel it was kinda like the View. It was a morning show I think it was pretty good. I think the women got too busy for the show and moved on. But that one I enjoyed. Don't know why they don't make BET for the young and more seasoned viewers. Their programming runs 24 hours a day every day so they have room.
Oh, BET listen to your audience. I'd give you some of my ideas free of charge.

Was Kimora Lee Simmons on that show? I vaguely remember something like that, but can't think of the name of it. I thought it was a good show because it made me laugh. They seemed to keep it real.

You know how I think BET listens to their audience? By watching their ratings. Has anyone stopped by BET.com's forums? It is very different from here. It isn't cool to say it, but they are pandering to their audience.
It would be interesting to see what happened if they put all the 'right' type of
programming on the channel. Would people stop watching? Or would they watch anyway and become enlightened?

senalj, yeap that is the one. It was a fun show.
Glitterific, I think they are pandering to a younger crowd and thoughs kids they cater to don't have jobs I'd tried to target a larger audience pool that can afford the stuff the advertisers try to push onto consumers. But I will still keep the hope alive and watch the network from time to time.

The only time I ever watched B.E.T was when they had this show in the late 1990s that was about promoting a healthy lifestyle, the host was this very attractive woman named Mocha Lee. I watched it for her.

May I say this again....
This is what we get for watching BET. Someone is correct in the late 80's or 90's they did TRY to have some relevant shows. Tavis, Dr Lee, there was a Black woman that had round table discussions, they had a travel show and I think an investment forum. Maybe it wasn't all that great because on reflection it was like Ebony Magazone on TV. But all that was mixed with the crappy video shows and other nonsense. Over time they've nixed anything that might develop into quality for nonsense.
When will we learn people. When will we learn??

I've seen those forums before...my 15 year old cousin lives on it judging by the spelling and extreme use of slang; I'd say BET is catering to exactly what most people have said...the young and the uneducated.
One of the things that gets me is that there a millions of black movies they could show but every time I flip through the guide Nora's Hair Salon is on or 3 can play that game...are those the only 2 movies they have? And their Blackbuster premieres? Why choose a movie like Menace to Society knowing that you'll have to edit half of the movie? Especially on a Sunday?
