I think they wanted to get away from the Sci Fi theme exclusively and give us more bad B movies to watch every weekend. I have to admit, most are hilarious. I know they are supposed to be scary, but I find them more comic relief than anything. Like the giant bugs carrying people away and people turning into giant spiders. lol
It's all about the money.
On March 16, 2009, Sci Fi announced that it would be changing its name to Syfy, to end confusion over how to capitalize and stylize their name and as part of an effort to rebrand the channel as offering "imagination-based entertainment" (including science fiction but also fantasy, the paranormal, adventure and others). Network officials also noted that, unlike the generic term "sci fi" which represents the entire science fiction genre, the term "Syfy" can be protected by trademark and therefore would be easier to market on other goods or services without fear of confusion with other companies' products.
They couldn't market or trademark "Sci-FI" but, "SyFy" they can. Along with it opens up the door for a little more fantasy as mentioned. mainly about the marketing.

Seems more the case they should be called the Sigh-Fi channel these days.
Well if nothing else they really know how to cast good looking women in their shows; "Stargate", "Eureka", "Warehouse 13" (which I haven't gotten to watch a full episode yet. The two dark haired women on "Eureka", the deputy and ? (the mayor, I don't know) are both pretty nice looking.
we enjoy both eureka and warehouse 13. they are shows that you can watch with young teens.
