The Arsenio Hall show was fantastic. If you grew up in urban America, that was the show to watch back in the day. The rest felt boring in comparison - Arsenio had guests that young people could relate to, but also those that were legends. I'll never forget when he had Stevie Wonder on there, and Stevie's guide had taken off somewhere, so when Stevie was done he got up and started walking in the wrong direction, almost off the raised stage if I recall...and Arsenio went to get him. Moments like those at least I will never forget.

Nah. I thought Arsenio was pandering too much. Trying to be overly-cool and anti-establishment while sitting on the lap of the Establishment.

I am not saying he was the worst, but again, Woo-woo-woo-no.

Arsenio paved the way for a lot of artists and provided a television show that, again, could be watched by young and older alike. Jay Leno has never been interesting to any but the older crowd. Plus, as I said, Arsenio was madly popular on the urban areas. The other thing about him is that he did not limit himself to mainstream music and high profile celebs. The man had present and former presidents, pro wrestlers, etc. During a time when the only viable alternative was Geraldo, Arsenio made the most sense for people. I think the problem is that people always want some dramatic "hard hitting question" type of show rather than a nice sit down and learn show. I prefer the latter; the former is boring to me.

Jay Leno's problem is that he doesn't listen to what the person he's interviewing is saying-ever! How important is listening to the person you're interviewing??? Very??!! No matter what they say he doesn't know because it's as though he's thinking of what he can or will say next or what can he say that will be funny. The thing is--he is NOT funny but IS quite annoying.

that's NBC for you, they hype the living daylights out of anything, always have. They're the ones that started referring to SNL re-runs as "encore presentations" and coined the term ''must see t.v.''

of all 4 networks they hype their shows the most.

I don't mind the show itself, I'm not a conan fan, I always feel like he spazzes out or tries too hard to make people laugh. And the whole reason they did this was demographics. They think conan will bring a more youthfull audience and it's really all about ad revenue.

Jay has grown on me over the years, I used to be a Letterman fan and still enjoy his show but his obvious politicing during last years election disappoints me. He's become way too partisan and angry. (I'm an independent). Letterman still will not make a negative joke about obama but I'm still hearing about bill clintons libido. strange.

anyways, Hope Jays show does well. I'd rather have this than another reality or "newsmagazine" show.

I just cannot find myself watching Leno after a couple of nights. The show is unwatchable. It's the same song and dance over and over. Wait until the fall season starts next week and Leno's ratings circle the drain.

Badger.... (OK, I will resist saying "mushroom"...but anyway),

I think Conan is a bit too spazzy too. I liked him in the beginning with "Conan the librarian", "Conan the septegenarian"..... but he tries too hard.

As for Leno? I only liked his intro stuff. Not much on the monologue, but the skits/interviews/headlines (Jaywalking, etc) were funny. Sometimes the props were funny, but usually only when they messed up!

Letterman? I am not 100% on the partisan thing. I know he is, but that does not bother me as much as his inherent bitterness. His whole heart surgery thing turned him around for a while and took his edge off (wasn't as free and zany, but wasn't as angry either).

The key to remember here is that Obama is kind of a boring president in that, he has very few gaffes. His policy is trying to please as many as possible, he is well spoken, and he hasn't pulled a Gerald Ford yet! So where Reagan reminded everyone of Grandpa, Bush Sr had that whiny voice, Clinton slept with everyone, and Bush Jr just sounded a bit slow on the uptake (partially deliberately), Obama is just not very easy to make fun of.....

I strongly dislike Micheal Moore... but as per his spot on Jay Leno, his new movie apparently goes after Repubs. and Dems. Could be worth a look if it is fair.... not ultra left.

I think the Jay Leno Show is a great idea. I watched on that Micheal Moore night (was that Tuesday?). I think the show will evolve with time. Certain skits might gain notoriety (like say Sat Night Live). We'll see..... kind of a "can't lose" situation for NBC as they are cutting costs in a big way.

On the downside... they had some 10 @ 10 think with Tom Cruise that was uncomfortable to say the least. He asked HORRIBLE questions. think the writers tried too hard to be scandalous... or get a noteworthy answer.
