Cannot Locate Excellent Lion Documentary! Help!
I goggled till my fingers bled and cannot turn this up: a documentary about a mother lion whose four cubs are bitten by deadly cobras and die. She herself is bitten and most of the documentary shows her violently ill and struggling to survive the venom and get well as she has to battle off predators, most notably in the docu, a pack of hyenas trying to take her down. One memorable scene: her lying on her side and trying to lay the good leg down on the sore one and it being so painful she has to sleep with the leg in the air. All you wild life docu watchers, does this ring a bell?

It's a National Geographic episode titled: Eternal Enemies; Lions and Hyenas. You can get it on video from several websites including Amazon.com.
I did see that...it was heart wrenching to watch.

Thank you soooooo much, tcrackly. Kudos and a rep point to you for your help. City-data members are great at helping others to track down programs they should have been smart enough to at least jot the title down when a program makes such an impression. Heart-wrenching, yes. I couldn't forget it years after seeing it. In my book, the best lion docu ever captured on film.

Just ordered it from Amazon. A steal at $5.09 + 2 bucks for shipping.

Have you seen the Mutual of Omaha one, "Heart of a Lioness" , about the lioness that "adopts" a springbok fawn? It seems she lost her babies to another lion and still felt the nurturing urge. So when a hunt goes badly a remaining fawn gets her attention. It's very sad but truly inspirational. The locals named her Kamunyak. She kept the fawn for several days, cleaning, cuddling, and protecting it.

No, I'll check that one out, but if it's as good as the hyenas one then its another on my to-get list. Amazon's reviews had 5 stars across the board for "Eternal Enemies". I've seen a lot of lion docu's but this one has just stuck with me over the years. I could have passed it a dozen times on the Nat's Geo Channel and not known it because I didn't have a title. If Mutual of Omaha can get to that level I'll take out an insurance policy from them.
