I think it's not so much the emotional involvement at the time but more the accumulation of all that negative imagery and subject matter. I watched a lot of those crime dramas, trutv court cases, forensic shows, even Dr Phil and such.
When I stopped watching I did notice a change for the better. Wild huh? Good to know about myself, too! Also makes me rethink the correlation between excessive exposure to violent imagery and possible corresponding violent behavior amongst kids who aren't as able to self-regulate as adults might be.
Anyway, in high school, one of my teachers told my mom that he could see my mood shift when there was trouble in the world. Just a sensitive type I guess

That's what I meant, and that's why I don't watch SVU.

I used to really like Christine Lahti on Chicago Hope years ago. I watched a few SVU's with her, and thought she was terrible. And what was with her face? I know she's gotten older, but she looked like she had so much Botox or plastic surgery that she could hardly move her face....

I can understand, toosie. I also agree with how all the negativity affects children. World stuff usually does not effect me but three things did, bigtime. 9-11 of course, Columbine and the spaceshuttle Columbia. All three of those made me break down and cry.
To the person who needs the synopsis...the ADA was hell bent on convicting a guy who woke up in his bedroom with a naked, dead woman. Hell bent is a mild description too. Ends up that the ADA came to court drunk, denying up and down that she was just tired and the defendant told the judge she was drunk! Benson was called to the court with a breathalyzer and Christine blew a .082! Needless to say she got canned and that was the end. I'm sure next week we will see Alex reappear.

Guy wakes up bloody and naked in his bathroom - then finds bloody dead girl in other room. Claims he has no memory of the event and doesn't know who she is. Everyone thinks he was drinking but he swears he is a reformed alcoholic and doesn't touch the stuff. No one believes him - stories start circulating about what a bad drunk he is AND that he was at a bar with the dead girl just the night before. Turns out his business partner "made" him take one drink and that set everything in motion. So the accused wants to use alcohol as a disease as a defense. Lahti's character is a biatch about that - gets really angry and says crappy things to the head dude (alchy) and to the pretty detective (mom was alchy). Then Lahti shows up to court drunk and there's a mistrial. Then the accused admits to the pretty detective that he did it but doesn't know why or how he will be able to live with that.
Oops - Tam and I were posting at the same time!

I kinda liked her. It made the interactions hilarious. And who doesn't know someone just like her? Sorry to see her go. She was adding some spark to the run-down, aging crew.

She was definitely a love-to-hate character, but you want to talk about run down and aging? LOL, no offense, but she is the epitome of that statement

I'm sick of Benson and Stabler.
I want to see Munch and Fin earn their pay.
