Glad I saw this thread.
I remember the original V series in the 80's. No, Robert Englund was not the father of the lizard baby, he only helped raise it and explain its lizard tendencies. Lizard baby (might have at the end of series been referred to as the star child?) was conceived between a teenage girl and lizard guy who seduced her. Robert Englund (Willie?) helped raise the child who grew to adulthood very quickly, like a lizard reaches maturity quickly. The series ended with Lizard child becoming the queen (or something like that ) to the lizard leader as prophesized. Also seems like the Diana character (played by Jane Badler) was shipped off to outer space as a traitor.
As I recall, the characters in the original seemed more compelling, more likeable, even "some" of the lizards, think there was some sort of resistance movement of humans and V lizards working together. I don't think I get SciFi channel to see it on Sunday, although I would like to see the original again.
I will be watching the first episode of the latest version of V to see where they're going to take this. I'm hoping that there will be some sort of continuity between the 2, some sort of reference to the original as part of a continuing story-fictional history so to speak.

I'm interested to see what similarities and what differences this will have to the original series. Based on the first 8 minute sneak preview, it has potential, though, I suspect this series will be more plot driven. The first 2 hours of the original series came off as more character driven, with strong allegories to early Nazi Germany.
Great to see all the sci-fi veterans in this! I actually recognized all the leads!

Yes, I remember the comparison to Nazi Germany too. I record all my ABC shows and FF through the commercials so I really haven't noticed anyone except the Leader of the aliens but I did notice that cutie guy from the 4400 is in it. Yum.

Glad this is a "buy/bye" week for my Pats so no silly thing like a football game will interfere with the Sy-Fy marathon tomorrow of "V". It will be interesting and a nice "do nothing" day.

Wow, I just want to follow up on my own post. I just saw the video on the ABC website and it looks fantastic and a lot of familiar faces, too - Morris Chestnutt, Sawyer's girlfriend, Juliet, from Lost and the guy that used to be on that other fairly recent sci-fi series, The 4400.

V (original miniseries)
SyFy is running a marathon of the original V miniseries today. Cool movie.
In case you don't pick up on it from the story or from the old Jewish guy who outright says it, it is basically a retelling of Nazi Germany.

You know, on rewatching it (after having watched it 100 times already over the years):
The first 2 hours are great. Back then, no one knew what the heck these aliens were up to. There was a great story and great characters. Yet I couldn't help notice how slow it was compared to character driven shows today, such as Lost. (Yes, many shows from the 80s start very slow. Rewatch Aliens and notice how long it takes to get to the action).
V: The Final Battle is a mess. It's like Heroes; there are glimpses of greatness, sandwiched between horrible dialogue and nonsensical plots. I understand there were creative differences between the network and the creator, and it shows. And yes, it's very dated.
I can see how a newcomer would find it slow, tedious, and later, ridiculous. But it was great for its time.
The series never existed. They never assassinated (literally) some of my favorite characters.
