Anyone else catch the "universal health care" reference during the interview?
As always I enjoy the ships and hardware, loved the little shuttle up to the big ship.
I too was not expecting the FBI partner to be a lizz
I re watched the original over the weekend, fun to see it since I was still a single gal then! Had to laugh at the special effects and the jail orange suits, new V is a bit classier!
I will keep watching.

Your opening line, Tami, is exactly what I was going to write. I jus was not impressed. What a disappointment. Oh well, there are other fish to fry.
There was an old TV miniseries titled "Amerika" with Kris Kristopherson about a fascist (Soviet, actually) take over of the US. It's an amazing series and I'm sorry to say that I donated my copy of it to an auction. Periodically I want to watch it.

In case you don't pick up on it from the story or from the old Jewish guy who outright says it, it is basically a retelling of Nazi Germany.

I thought V drew a parallel between the proletariat resisting the scourge of corporatists and international bankers.

I never watched the original so I cant compare the two, but I really liked tonites premiere episode. I can just tell its gonna be goooood. I needed something to fill the hole in my heart left by "Lost" and unfortunately "Flash Forward" wasnt doing it for me, so I am hoping "V" will! I like the character Morris Chesnut plays and was really surprised he turned out to be an alien! I wonder how is fiancee is going to take that one? I thought he was going home to break up with her, but it looks like she might stick around after she found that ring. I might be tempted to as well ...... my BF might be a lizard but he looks like Morris Chesnut soooooo.......
Overall, I think its gonna be good and I am excited to see how it will play out!
p/s Scott Wolf is getting old! And glad to see another former Party of Fiver found work, sorry Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Charbet....oh and Neve Campbell where are you??

The Nazi parallel is rather blatent in the origional series, especially on personal levels. When the son comes back home after informing on his parents disloyalty and they have been taken, it was at its most personal. I guess you can see any enemy as the controller. What I did notice which seems even more relivant now is the news being reduced to pretty pictures and pleasent faces. We seem to be able to do it all by ourselves without the help of lizards.

It looked like something out of a 70s Godzilla movie from Japan.
Yes people, I know I've been spoiled by all the CGI advances that we've had since the original V miniseries. I think I've also been spoiled by BSG the series. That gave a realistic version of occupation, and mistreatment from another group.
A big "yeah that" to person who said the plots are nonsensical. The dialogue is so bad. Could Diana's character be anymore of a caricature?
But it was nice to go down memory lane....

At the time it was pretty much state of the art, but today its obviously fx. All the great CGI today and models are rarely every used and you can't tell, but I would guess most of the ship scenes in V are models since CGI just wasn't there in 1983. Considering how primitive it is the CGI is rather good though.
Nobody has every portrayed an occupation as well as those first episodes of season 3 on BSG. Especially what it did to our known characters. In V when the guy betrays them then rushes to warn them, I was waiting for the moment they turned on him but no, he's still there one of the rebels even later. Anyone see Red Dawn on that crew? With no spoilers, the first episode of the new series suggests it may be more like BSG in attitude than the origional.
Its wierd watchiang the new one just having watched the old one and picking out who is what character. Its all a bit more subtle at least so far. I'm hoping it makes the darkness in the story *dark*. Anna is creepy, not a spoiled evil princess so that looks possible.

And 4400, and Taken and something else I don't remember. Seems like its not a skiffy series without him. Its a good sign when vets of the genre are used in a series.
Having watched the old one in the last few days, and the first episode tonight, I'm very hopeful that this will get it right. The creepness factor is big and the subtle touches are good. Assuming the story isn't drastically changed, it should have that growing menace without it hitting you so hard it leaves a bump.
Here's hoping they let the darker elements be dark this time.

That health care reference was rather interesting. If you didn't know why they liked um healthy in the origional I wonder what meaning you would take.
The fx was fantastic. Of course it has to be now. The inside if the ships is rather beautiful and a contrast to the grey blimp on the outside. The opening segment with the ground shaking and people trying to call friends and family on their cels, and that shadow... wow.
I see some crossover inspiration from BSG in the FBI guy being a lizard. Now they look just like us... So how do you know who is who? They have been here making their plans for a genocide for a long time... I would LOVE to see Caprica/Number 6 show up as a lizard in a guest role.
I'm thinking with the general creepyness and the hint of darker things coming soon that we may have something a lot more dark and interesting coming. Hopefully with a greater sense of complexity too.
And how many nightmares will have that *smile* in them tonight lol?

I also watched the original V marathon on sunday. The new one tonight was good, but for me too much going from one scene to another and back and forth..almost got dizzy. They sure moved forward fast in the first episode, leaving out a lot of the original storyline.
I liked the inside of the ship much better than the original. More like a major city in there.
For those who never saw the original series, they may have gotten somewhat confused in the first episode. Hopefully they will continue watching, because the special effects alone for this one make it worth watching.
I hope they include the alien baby in there as well. That was hilarious seeing it again in the marathon, looks so fake now.
