I can't be the only one that HATES the Weather Channel!!!
I absolutely hate the Weather Channel, um, excuse me, I mean the Commercial Channel with weather breaks! Sheesh, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, NBC got control and, you guessed it, the WC got worse!
We live in an rural area with no local stations. There are stations in the surrounding area with a short weather forcasts, but we have always relied on the WC for our weather forcast. Sure, the WC always had the commercials, etc., but they have gotten so much worse. Since coming under NBC/MSNBC's umbrella , they've added business reports.....oh come on now. Do you think there may be another channel out there providing business reports??? They keep showing the same old tired shows over and over again, i.e., When Weather Changed History, Storm Stories, etc.! Give me a break!! Gid rid of 'em! It's just old and worn out news!
Then last night when there was severe weather moving into the area, don't bother tuning into the WC because they were showing a MOVIE!!! Yep, seems with all the other junk they dish out, instead of actual weather, they have added movies! Oh sure, it was a weather related movie -- The Perfect Storm -- but it's an OLD movie, and one I could have viewed on any number of other MOVIE stations! I want to see WEATHER on the WC, not movies!
Hello, Weather Channel.....it's about the weather, not entertainment for pete's sake! Catch a clue NBC, have the Weather Channel focus on weather -- there MUST be a reason it was named THE WEATHER CHANNEL!
Just me venting here.....but I know I can't be the only one who HATES the Weather Channel!!! Sheesh......I'm feeling better now......

AGREED!!! I have flipped to that channel TWICE in the past year and each time they are showing something other than live weather. I just go to the NOAA website when I am in front of the puter. TWC stinks.

The Weather Channel Braces For Friday-Night Flicks : NPR
Quote:
You see, The Weather Channel programming is something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it offers handy information most cable subscribers use often enough. But they'll only watch long enough to know whether they need to leave the house with a sweater. That doesn't help the channel's ratings.
As bizarre a departure as movies might seem, at least they keep viewers on the couch for a few hours. Plus buying dated movies is a lot cheaper than producing original programming.

I have weather apps on my phone, so I never tune into the weather channel. Well, with the exception of being under a really bad storm of some type.

I hate to admit but many a night I have watched TWC all night long! Usually during something BIG happening like Katrina or a huge blizzard up here. I enjoy the "When weather changed History" and those types of shows but I do admit I won't watch a repeat of them.
So they have movies now? Sounds like they are downsizing. Didn't Ted Turner used to own TWC? Jane's alimony must be sucking him dry! I'll have to look at this new TWC. All I know is that I've hated the new display of forecasts and there is no voice to listen to anymore! So I haven't watched TWC since I went on vacation this winter.

OMG... the title of this thread killed me.
I have a brother in law who lives in Orlando Fl. and we visited him once about 10 years ago, and he had the weather channel on ALL THE TIME!!! He would just sit there for hours watching it.
To this day, I hate watching the weather channel because of that visit. Even if there is a tornado warning outside, I still don't turn to that channel, in fact, I have it set to SKIP on the remote.
Now, who's the sick one?

I'd rather watch a test pattern than the Weather Channel. They are horrible! I use WeatherUnderground on my pc for the most accurate forecasts for this area.

I started to dislike watching the Weather Channel when they started showing stuff like "Storm Stories". I cannot stand that kind of programming that re-enacts events in a horrible over-hyped manner especially when I wanted to see the weather. Then they added traffic reports during the "local weather" that were usually inaccurate which was the last straw. I now get my weather on the internet. Glad I already quit watching them - movies - really?

The Weather Channel has provided me with some hilarious good times laughing. Ok, it's a blizzard and man nor beast should be out in it. What do they do? They send their people out in it!!! So, there they are out in the elements looking like Ralphie and his brother on A Christmas Story. They try to speak: (insert teeth chattering sound) "wwwweelllllll, ittt's reeeeeeeeealllyyyyyyy coooolllddddddddd outttttttt herreeeeee". Ya think? OR they send them out in a monsoon or high wind and the guys have to hang onto a pole and then they see them slip and they are reporting down on their knees. By the way, how do the camera men stay upright when the reporters can't? Whatever the camera men are doing the reporters should pick up those tricks! Oh, and another thing, have you noticed that when it is gorgeous, drop dead "I want to bottle this weather" days that the reporters are inside? What is up with that? Seems like THOSE are the days that they should let them report from outside in the nice weather. It's the least that they could do after the bad weather comedy routines.
My other half (note: did not say better, haha) loves weather. All things weather. I think his baby bottle must have had a temperature gauge on the outside of it or something. I got him a weather scanner type radio and a rain gauge and he gets weather alerts on his phone now. He has spared me some of the weather channel now, of course he likes to watch those Discovery Storm Chaser shows, but life is much better.

I don't watch the weather channel at all anymore... I used to find it quite annoying before I got the internet, having to wade through all their commercials and endless yapping just to see the weather.
