Leno has to constantly look at a prompter to read his monologue. Conan is more spontaneous.

I think Conan would have been much more successful if NBC had continued showing regular programming at 10pm. As for stoner humor, Conan made the show much tamer since taking over The Tonight Show (not a good thing, IMO). Personally, I hope he ends up on Fox... Go Coco!!
I agree. I'm not a stoner, (although, to each his own) I'm older, and I loved Conan's old show. I remarked to my husband last night that Conan is a physical comedian unlike Jay. Some people don't like that, we do. We're not against Jay, but since this brouhaha has been going on, we realize Conan is funnier. Conan has that "off the cuff" humor.

Stoner humor doesn't mean you have to be stoned to appreciate it. It's just a description of a type of humor. It's just a word used to describe certain types of comic entertainment. I describe it as random humor meaning certain events can take place that don't necessarily make sense but it just comes across as being really funny. I'm suprised you guys haven't heard of that term being used before

think the term you're thinking of is "surreal humor" (never really heard of stoner humor, though have heard of stoner movies):

"Surreal humor is a form of humor based on bizarre juxtapositions, absurd situations, and nonsense logic.

Spike Milligan, Eddie Izzard, Ross Noble, Bill Bailey, The Mighty Boosh, Steven Wright, Monty Python, Vic and Bob, Jack Handey, Harry Hill, The Kids in the Hall, Conan O'Brien, Tim and Eric, Paul Merton, Mitch Hedberg."

I can relate to Monty Python and Jack Handy. So, I guess Conan's my guy. My favorite comedian is Ricky Gervais. Not familiar with all the tags, just know what I like. LOL.

Exactly. The other night, he did a perfect dolphin cry spontaneously. That's what I'm talking about. DH noticed the other night how just walked over his desk.

Jay was not ready to retire in the first place, NBC (and Conan) forced the new time slot upon him. Jay had the #1 late night show, he deserves to have the Tonight Show returned to him in the standard one hour format. That being said, I did not jump ship to Letterman but think Jay was better in that slot. Conan was MUCH better in his old Late Night position, and Jimmy Fallon does not do anything for me whatsoever, he stinks.

It's too late now, but Conan should have opted to get his old show back. If he moves to FOX then he has to go up against Letterman AND Leno, provided he wants that earlier time slot. If he settles for the later time slot, he's still worse off than sticking it out at NBC, a proven 15 year success for him. Jimmy Fallon is the expendable one here, Conan should have pulled the sword to save himself.

Conan comes across as "less scripted" than Leno. Back when I watched late night stuff, I would very often turn off the TV once the guests came out. Sorry, but I don't care for the celebrities plugging their new TV show, movie, album, etc. In my opinion, Conan can take droll interviews and make them funny. The problem with the show is mostly generational. There was a Conan show in the first month where I quickly realized that he is going to have a serious generational problem. He was doing the monologue and they did something with the scrim/backdrop behind him that made it look like a Super Mario game (hard to describe, but if you saw the episode you would know what I'm talking about). I thought it was hilarious, but if a viewer was born pre-1970, chances are high they have no idea what that was. Leno appeals to the baby boomers. And what the baby boomers want is what we are going to get. Sorry, 20 and 30-somethings. "Our humor" just won't cut it.

Conan has been building quite a following during this whole fiasco. That new audience will follow him wherever he ends up. If he ends up on FOX, I predict he will beat BOTH Leno and Letterman. If not FOX, I predict Letterman will retire and hands the reigns over to Conan...where he will still beat Leno.

Isn't FOX a little too conservative for Conan though?
