Have I mentioned I have a relative who is a finalist for next season's Amazing Race? Would you go on this show if you could?

Good luck to your relative.....hopefully he/she is a good guy and I will root for him/her

I wouldn't go on this show, even though I think it's more harmless than Survivor. You never know what you'll have to eat, when a plane will have delays, and what kinds of heights you'll have to overcome. My partner would have to be my bf and we'd get eliminated solely because he's a vegetarian!

I'd rather eat slop on Big Brother!

I'd go on with my best male friend in the world in a heartbeat. I'm short, blocky, bearded and strong; he's tall, fast and handsome. I'm straight, he's gay. Friends for nearly three decades. I write, he sells antiques. I speak a number of languages and have a gift for them, with a broad understanding of geography, cultures and history; he has a degree in business and is an outstanding, creative entrepreneur, speaks a language I don't, and is excellent at remaining calm in crises. I'd trust him with my wife (well, that one's kind of easy), my bank PIN, my house keys, my books and anything else.

I'm not sure. My husband and I would make a good team on paper but I'm not sure I could take 28 days of trying to catch some sleep on trains/planes/buses and then having to put my entire life into a backpack. I did it in college while traveling around Europe but I've become more high maintenance.

That being said, TAR is a show where a good team should have the following traits:
1. Be able to swim without floaties
2. Not have any true food aversions (vegetarian, lactose intolerance, etc)
3. One person must know how to drive a stick shift car and the other must be good at maps. It would be helpful if BOTH members of a team knew how to do both in case of emergency.
4. Not be afraid to stop and ask for directions
5. Have basic knowledge of the world around them. Saying "Danke" to a South American, for example or "Gracias" to someone in Asia.
6. Not be so judgemental about the cultures you experience. Calling things "Ghetto" or "Nasty" is just outright obnoxious. Be happy you live somewhere that your quality of life is good, but don't judge people who wake up in the morning with one goal in mind: Survival.

Yep, NicoleJ is correct,3D's. Ms. Beauty Queen chucked a big one! I was like, "did I really just see that?" Gross.

FarNorth, best of luck to your relative! I hope they go far and they are good guys and I'm rooting for them. Yes, if I were physically up to the challenge, I'd go for it!

j_k_k, maybe you and your best bud should think about going on? You two sound like you would compliment each other in challenges.

We have actually talked about it. From the TV standpoint it would be an amusing Odd Couple scenario. He's a blond handsome devil, whereas I'm fortunate that my beard hides most of my face (it's heavy enough that small children have actually mistaken me for Santa). He's also extremely witty and charismatic (before he came out, he had women more or less chasing him in packs); I'm more grim and intense-eyed. We both speak our minds; we would give good DR. For example, watching the snooty lesbians, I can just see he and I:

G (him): "And the cause of justice for us takes a Great Leap Backward."
J (me): "Homophobe. They would be snooty even if they were straight."
G: "What were they thinking coming on here? It's not all about the mimosas."
J: "What we really need is a challenge where we have to eat cooked rat or something. I would pay to watch them do that."
G: "You're doing that one if it's a Roadblock. Disgusting."
J: "Unless it's rat sausage. Then I must defer to your superior expertise."

We talk like that already. No extra work needed.

I wonder if my relative will be able to tell anyone if she is chosen for the show. Maybe she will just poof away one day and come back 28 days later (or sooner). I remember the Poker players not being able to explain why they were missing a poker tournament.

I could never do it. I can't eat strange stuff.

You're right...I did watch the DVRd show a few days ago and I saw her chucking the loogy. Apparently, in her effort to not act like a beauty queen, she has decided to take on the trailer trash persona. I wasn't a fan of hers anyway so it doesn't change my mind much. Only instead of me just saying she's dumb, I can now say she is gross AND dumb.
