LOS ANGELES, March 3 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Warner Bros. studio is working on a big-screen adaptation of the classic 1960s television sit-com "Gilligan's Island," Variety said.
The iconic show followed the adventures of seven castaways -- a ship's skipper and first mate, a wealthy married couple, a movie star, a farm girl and a professor -- who were stranded together on a deserted island.
Like most shows you can't replace/remake the original and do justice to them.
I like to remember the originals as they were, the memories of the era.
I agree. The original was silly and stupid....but entertaining in it's own era. I'm not sure it can be duplicated without making a mockery of the original.
The audience is a little more savvy these days. I'm not sure they would find it all that entertaining.
Seems to me they've already done a remake. It was called Alien (1979):
Skipper: Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt)
Gilligan: Executive Officer Kane (John Hurt)
Ginger Grant: Navigator Lambert (Veronica Cartwright)
Mary Ann: Warrant Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)
The Professor: Science Officer Ash (Ian Holm)
Thurston Howell III and Lovey: Engineers Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) and Parker (Yaphet Kotto)
I guess the alien creature would be some kind of agglomeration of Bingo, Bango, Bongo and Irving, a.k.a. The Mosquitoes, the rock 'n' roll band that wants to be left alone. The alien slime, of course, would be coconut cream pie.
They had the T.V. movies that got them off the island, that was enough.
The Beverly Hillbillies movie was terrible. The Flintstones, The Wild Wild West and Maverick were as well.
