I kind-of like Angie Harmon or I like her okay. Somehow I didn't get into this one though. I mean it's okay, but it seemed a bit too sensational or something. "Creepy serial-killer and attractive (or if you prefer ostensibly attractive) female cop in gruesome cat-and-mouse game." I don't know it seemed a bit pat or too much. Maybe it works better in the books.

I saw the first episode and had the same problem with the show.
I don't like that it shows close up details of the victims and flashes of the actual murders. Too gruesome for me.
The show was okay, but I think it would be better if they toned it down a bit.

Nah, it's good the way it is, IMO. Toning down was what led to my dwindling interest in CSI and Grissom was the frosting on the cake although I have grown to like what'shisname.
WMC and R&I are both based on novels so if anything you should be asking if they are "too" similar. Books & TV have a lot of "similar" concepts, this is nothing new. Flinstones & The Honeymooners were basically the same show. Top Cat & The Phil Silver show were basically the same, etc.
Water is wet, the sky is blue, TV shows copy each other.
