i have an adult friend who's desperate of learning to swim as she wants to go on water adventures with less fear of drowning. is the red cross program in TJC free? any other options?

I used to work at TJC OHPE Center where the swimming lessons are about 4 years ago. It is actually pretty good, I know many friends went there for scuba driving lessons. A lot of elderly people go there for swimming lessons or exercises. I doubt it is free.

thanks! are there any neighborhood pools (something similar to what i experienced in austin where we paid $5 for a day use of the pool) here in tyler?

There are two public pools in Tyler, I believe: Woldert Pool and Fun Forest Pool. I've never been to either of them, but I'm guessing you can either pay per visit or purchase a season pass. I typically associate screaming, minimally-supervised children with public pools, but the facilities may offer "adult swim" or something like that in the evenings, at which time the pool is open only for lap swimming and children aren't permitted.

701 32nd St (near Texas College)

Fun Forest pool:
900 N Glenwood Blvd (near the intersection of W Gentry & 110)
