Surfing in Puerto Rico
Are there any other locations that are good for surfing besides the northwest corner from Rincon to Isabella? Are there any good surf spots in the north east near San Juan or Luquillo?

Near the metro area is "Los Tubos" in the town of Manati, in Toa Baja you can find "'El Unico", in San Juan some experience surfers go to La Perla and surf the offshore there, "La Pared" in Luquillo. If you haven't been to any if these places I will highly suggest that when trying them out seek some advice from the locals, currents are tricky on the northside and its not common for people not familiar with those places to find themselves in danger and many have died because of it.

Thanks for the info.. In your experience should I bother with surfing anywhere but the west coast of PR? Do any spots of PR compare with the west? How is the surf experience at La Pared compared to say Rincon?

Its about the same in " Los Tubos" , " La Pared", to what you see in Crashboat and Jobos. There are more places to surf, but if you are an experienced surfer you just be bored out of your mind if you go.

Rented a board for 50- a day at Jobos and the shop put the purchase price of 800- dollars on my card in case it was stolen, broken etc.. They credited the account when I brought it back but that's not usually how a board rental works. But what are ya going to do. Also lost a fin and that was 35-, but that's pretty standard...

Can anyone else share their experience or know of any good surf spots in the north east part of PR? How are the local surfers? Laid back or protective of their spots?

The closest I've gotten to surf on the NE side was a spot not far from Vega Baja. Very localized. Surfed with 20 locals and only 1 of them badmouthed me out in the water. I just said "hola" with a smile and his temper fizzled.
Show respect, don't paddle out in the middle of the peak where everyone is sitting- start from the outside and wait for the locals to catch a few, and slowly work your way in. Spanish and a good attitude will help you get waves.
DO NOT DROP IN ON ANYONE- even if they are on a bodyboard. You will pay for it.
