Default Tarpon o Sábalo en PR

Hoping to see if any readers living in PR like to fish for tarpon o sábalo. There are a few guides who fish San Jose Lagoon and a couple of other spots close to San Juan but I'm more interested in fish on your own areas away from SJ. I'm planning on a day with Pochy Rosario out of Cabo Rojo who guides for tarpon but like most guides the fee is substantial. If on vacation it's do-able for a day or two, but when staying for a month or more do it yourself fishing is the only affordable option.

Tarpon anyone?

i remember seeing a sign for Tarpon fishing out in rincon somewhere last week. not alot of help i know.

in joyuda you can see a school of 20+ at restaurante 'el bohio.' Their dining area juts over the water and they sit out there waiting for scraps.

would talking to local fishermen be an option? theres a fishing place out in rincon in barrio barrero or even at crash boat beach. the one in rincon has a little bar (and chapel) next to it so maybe buy some beers and get chatty.

Thanks mym, I was at Los Tubos last year but didn't get to Rincon. Looking for likely spots and then talking to locals is a good idea. I'll google Rincon for tarpon info too. Joyuda is in the same area where Pochy Rosario guides. Could probably do ok if I could rent a skiff at the marina.
