I was wondering, does Puerto Rico have TV stations affiliated with the big American networks like ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox? If so, do those stations broadcast in English, in Spanish or in English with subtitles?
And what about specialty channels? Are they the regular ones from the U.S. or the Spanish versions of them you have in Latin America?
What do most people watch? Is programming in English very popular? Or maybe American programming dubbed into Spanish? Or original stuff in Spanish?
Yes, all of those channels are aired in Puerto Rico in English. I watch NCIS/LA/New Orleans, Hawaii Five-O, Justified, etc the same as I do on the mainland on the same channels.
Many American channels are also aired in nearby islands that have no political affiliation with the USA, and on regular cable.
Sometimes its odd that you find yourself in some of these places that look and feel like nothing in the USA, then you turn the television on and there's New York's ABC 7 Eyewitness News with Lee Goldberg or Bill Evans telling everyone what the weather is like in Midtown Manhattan. You certainly get a kicker if its winter time and the guy is talking about snow and wind chills. Makes you worry a little bit for the family members back home and then decide to release the stress by jumping in the pool surrounded by palm trees and the glorious warm Caribbean sun!
Man, life can be tough, very tough, so tough it leaves you speechless! LOL
Ironically, on the day before flying home you don't even bother looking at that channel and if you flip by it by mistake, it immediately cuases a negative reaction or maybe its just me! He he
Another odd thing is seeing commercials say for Sears, then you ask if there is a Sears on the island and people say no. Weirdest thing ever! This doesn't really happens in Puerto Rico because they do have Sears there, but on some other islands it leaves you wondering if the commercials are there to psychologically prepare people in case they get a visa to move to the USA.
