There should be a plan to fly in additional repair vehicles & parts/materials, along with volunteer personnel to help the local utility workers get on with the rebuilding.
Of course that would take some efficiency on the part of the federal government.
The military has its response capability, and I did hear they were operating out in the VI & other islands.
There are electric company linemen from New York, Arkansas, and Missouri waiting to go to Puerto Rico, they are waiting to get transport from the Air Force and American Airlines.
Apparently transporting Military personnel, FEMA workers, and Federal law enforcement officers and the delivery of food, water, and generators has priority at the moment. Remember, they are desperate for manpower to try and reach some of the mountain towns. Firefighters from Riverside County, California and US Forest Service Law Enforcement officers were able to reach Morovis only yesterday afternoon.
Anyone have word or a way to check if the road from Caguas to Cidra is open, Highway 52 / 172. 52 is open freeway but 172 has/had a lot of trees. Gracias a todos.
I saw Geraldo Rivera on the news today. He is in PR and has family there. He suggested that the military come, the Navy, with all their resources. That would be awesome.
Geraldo should take some time away from the mirror and look around... or go to a briefing. Several US Navy ships have steamed into San Juan harbor over the last two days, more are enroute... and US Navy and Marine personnel have been working to repair/clear roads as well as get airport operational again. There's a lot good info sources out there, the Puerto Rican Gerry Springer isn't one of them.

Just got word that my FIL in Ponce ( Urban Jaime Drew area) is ok.a cousin has visited him..the area around his house seem in pretty good shape.
So, if anyone has familia around that way, hopefully things are good for them too.
Today's paper said the national guard is there to help, and others are getting there to help get the power up again.
Some reported that the hospitals are damaged and unable to handle all the injured. I wonder what is being done about this?

Agreed, there are 3 Amphibious Assault ships (including their assigned helicopters and Marine detachments), 11 Coast Guard cutters (PLUS the 6 that are based there), and over 10,000 military personnel, FEMA workers, Public Health Service workers, and Federal law enforcement personnel on the ground. People need to be patient and realize that the island has suffered a massive amount of damage and they can't be everywhere at once. The Central Mountain towns in particular have been hit very hard and that is delaying rescue/relief efforts since many roads are flooded and/or blocked by downed trees and telephone wires.
Could we do more? Absolutely, but it's not like we're ignoring the Puerto Ricans. We ARE responding, we ARE delivering aid. It's just very difficult because the ports and airports have taken serious damage. SJU's control tower was destroyed and the Air Force tactical controllers have to guide in each plane by sight ... and thus the airport is only open during daylight hours.

I was told there was at least one Canadian Navy supply vessel that came in the first day the port was accessible. But it wouldn't surprise me that El Presidente Pen-de-jo has issued such an order.
it appears that the current issue is the lack of diesel fuel to run power plants at gas stations and electrical plants and ice plants and water pumps. mostly the issue is with its distribution.
the gov't is calling for all truck drivers, even with expired licenses to report in. Although drivers who will transport combustibles will need an up to date license.
the gov't has called in all lunch ladies to help distribute food at refuges
postal service has been cancelled until further notice
