I can guarantee you that if he was white, they would have never called. His intelligence and work ethic is why he is a scholar, his skin color is the reason that Ohio State gave him a full ride. He lived in Florida, so it's not like Ohio State was the back yard university.

Whites may be the most advantaged person in this country TODAY, but 25 years from now, whites will be a minority in 10 states. In 50 years, whites will be a minority it over 20 states. So basing your pride on the "whiteness" of the country is living in the past.

Who said anything about blacks being lazy? My children have been raised to completely disregard race all together. We don't use stupid terms like black, white, etc. in our household.

I have seen many employment adds with statement like this, pulled from a government job listing. "We encourage minority and women candidates to apply for this position. Women and minorities are severely underrepresented in this agency". So if it didn't matter, they wouldn't waste their time placing this in their job advertisements.

1. Blacks and Hispanics are UNDER represented at better universities. Why so if all they need to do is to state that they want to attend and they will be admitted?

2. The best jobs in this country are in the PRIVATE sector. Now tell me which fast track job in the private sector will a black person be treated better than a white person would be? At best the black person will be treated no better. At worst, because they lack ties to the most elite circles, certain opportunities will skip them. And yes clandestine bigots still exist and can use subtle methods to exclude whenever they wish.

I think some one needs to tell you that jobs as policemen and firemen, while critically important occupations whi8ch upwardly mobile white men aspire to have.

And as to an entity wanting to ensure that it considers a broader pool than just white men, so ENCOURAGES women and nonwhites to apply, the fact that these latter groups are UNDER REPRESENTED should suggest to you that historically white men have had better access to those jobs.

That Florida, especially the Orlando area, became the place with the greatest arrival of PR transplants due to Hurricane Maria is a no brainer.

What has me in shock is the state that's in second place. I thought after Florida it was going to be New York with the greatest influx, but instead its tiny Connecticut (or ko-nay-ree-ko as the typical Puerto Rican tends to say it, lol.)

More than 1,700 students displaced from Puerto Rico have been enrolled in Connecticut schools, with hundreds more arriving every week.

As of November, Connecticut had welcomed the second highest number of families from the hurricane-damaged U.S. territory, only behind Florida, putting pressure on the state’s school districts to make room for new students, according to the Puerto Rico Department of Education.
Connecticut school districts struggle to find room for displaced Puerto Ricans - StamfordAdvocate

How did this happen?

Why isn't New York or even New Jersey in second place?

The biggest irony is that Connecticut is actually the only state that landwise is about as big as the island itself. If only it had palm trees, if only... lol

New York City's Puerto Rican population has been on the decline for years now. Many of them have moved to Florida, northeastern Pennsylvania, the suburbs of Long Island and Westchester County, etc. If they can't make it they move to Florida or PA for the lower cost of living. If they make it big they move to the suburbs.

The reality is that living in New York is expensive, it's even more expensive if your English is poor and as a result your reduced to working sub-minimum wage jobs. This is why it's important that Puerto Ricans become 100% bilingual.

2) The big welfare state has replaced the fathers in families and perosnal responsibility and big government taken over and doing a bad job at that. That's why you have a high % of babies born out of wedlock with blacks and Latinos that increases the chances of staying in poverty and being involved in criminal activity that gets passed from generation to generation.

3) The Southern Strategy is a myth. Richard Nixon didn't win the South in 1968. Name me one policy that Nixon used to bring the racists Democrats to the GOP? you can't because it doesn't exist. The South didn't turn full Republican until 1994 when the Democrats lost control of Congress after 40 years rule with new generations of voters and conservatism of limited government, lower taxes and free markets.......now you are repeating the democrat propaganda of calling Reagan a racist? LOL......anybody that the liberals disagree are racists. They did it to Goldwater, Nixon, Reagan, Both Bushes, Mccain, Romney and now Trump. It's the democrat play book, call anybody that doesn't agree with their big government socialist agenda a racist. That is how ignorant you sound.

4) If you think a few millionaires NFL players disrespecting the National Anthem and flag is doing anything to solve the problems of the black community of high crime which are over 95% black and black crime, bad schools and lack of economic opportunity then you are very clueless. If these NFL players who make 16 million dollars a year want to complain about this country and inequality then they should donate 90% of their salaries for playing a boy's game to the poor in the black communities but they don't. They are ignorant and grandstanding.

5) The NFL isn't a place for political protests or political ideology. NFL is a private enterprise and customers/fans have every right to reject athletes disrespecting the flag and the anthem.

6) You are all hypocrites.....if a few Puerto Rican millionaire athletes or Mexican athletes disrespects the Puerto Rican or Mexican flags and National Anthems because they have issues with the few Puerto Rican or Mexican cops or bring their personal politics into the sport, they would be done as athletes, they would be outcast and rightly so because there is a time to protest and a way but you don't mess with the flag and national anthem of a country.....ANY COUNTRY.....go to any country and try that cr@p and see your head on a spike.

7) Can you imagine if a Mexican Boxer in the ring disrespects the Mexican flag and National Anthem because of his personal issues with the Mexican police or his politics? he would be DONE, OUTCAST in the Mexican country. He would probably have to move out.......Puerto Ricans are the same with their flag and national anthem, that's sacred to all but here you are saying it's o.k to do it every game in public with the U.S. flag because liberals say it's ok......well it's not O.K. for the majority of Americans and we have a right as fans to reject that and voice our opinion......but don't be a hypocrite. No other athlete in the world does that except a few ingrates millionaires in our country. We cut so much slack to black athletes in the USA due to white guilt and political correctness that we wouldn't allow any other group to get away with that and many of us are finally saying enough is enough and reject it.

8) about soul searching? it's the Democrat party that has to do their soul-searching. They are the minority party of the state legislative branches, governorships, Congress, Senate and now the White House. Since Obama won the Presidency in 2008, this country has been more racially divided by his policies and the democrat party identity politics that has been rejected at the local and federal levels.

if minorities start voting for their best economic and self-interests individually and not by tribalism they would be better off. The fact is the Democrat Party has taken the minority vote for granted for years but you are o.k. with that.......it's like voting for the same political parties in Puerto Rico over and over and then complain why things are worse off.....that's on you.

Hellion before you tackle Economics and Political Science, why not take a remedial writing course and/or enroll in Adult Education? I bet you went to public schools for 9 or 10 years and that was the biggest waste of money. Why is it I can tell just from someone's writing, who they voted for?

actually, my education was from the public schools of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Navy and proud of it. I worked myself from the bottom and from poverty. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth or went to private elite schools like you, you New Yorker lawyer that now owns a farm in New Mexico and the only thing you talk about in forums is legalizing pot and thinking you are better than others just because they have different political opinions than you.

The first language I ever spoke and learn since I was born was Spanish, English came second. Can you hold a conversation in a forum in Spanish error free?

how many languages do you speak and write? I know three. So that makes me better educated than you.

We all know who you voted for and your politics. Like we say in Puerto Rico: "chupate esa lo que te mondo la otra"

WestGuest...I used to hassle Hellion about his English Grammar faux pas, syntax, spelling and verb tense errors etc. flaunting my Masters Degree in English literature in his face.

He came right back at me with like attacks, calling me a Gringo who was married to a Puertorriqueña.

If this CD board was in Spanish, I think he would excel in representing his case(s) with a bit more eloquence.

My English was good enough to teach as an Adjunct Professor part time, while pursuing my main career in Law Enforcement,
My Spanish, on the other hand, is rudimentary, I can read it better than I can speak it, I am most familiar with the local Puerto Rican dialects of Ponce, and Vega Baja..where my wife's familia live, as well as Rincón where I have a second home.

Suffice to say, I could hardly write a legible post here in Spanish with any confidence, and without ridicule.

Hellion and I are on totally different pages Politically..I could NEVER align my self with his Political leanings or Ideology...I'd have to kill myself first. Seriously

One thing he has to offer is an innate sense of Puerto Rican History and political involvement..In other words, the Dude certainly knows his sh*t about these things.

I've learned a lot from him.I told him he should tone down his rhetoric, lose his 'head smack' emojis, lols, and uppity attitude, when driving a point home in one of his posts.

I don't think he will ever heed my advice but,
That's Hellion.

Peace, everyone ..and long live Puerto Rico, no matter what your political leanings may be..

Its been THREE MONTHS since Maria came storming into Puerto Rico and what follows are impressions or observations of what I saw.

The country side is still devastated. Riding on highway 52 to Caguas one can’t miss the thousands upon thousands of de foliaged trees and others knocked to the ground. The friquitines that bought in money for the underground economy are all gone from Highway #1.

The caves of Camuy are closed.

Riding towards Canovanas on highway 3, most if not all traffic lights don’t operate, however drivers,, that are generally not known for politeness , appear civil.

Electricity is down in more than 50% of the island, even in upscale urbanizaciones like Santa Maria and Monte Hiedra.

Water seems restored overall, with spots that have still not recovered.

The Ritz Carlton is closed for repairs. So is El San Juan, but it’s undamaged areas are used to house FEMA workers. El Verdaza, The embassy Suites , La Concha, El Convento The Vanderbilt are all open for business. The Caribe Hilton is iffy.

The Conquistador, The Meliá Coco Beach The Regis and Rio mar are all closed till late spring.

Paradores are mostly open.

One thing I don’t understand is why many lamp posts are still leaning. Tons of rotten card boards tarnish some streets in El Condado and Isla Verde. I was wondering why the municipalities of San Juan or Carolina don’t do something to clean this mess up. A well connected person told me “ if FEMA inspectors don’t see the damage they won’t pay”. In other words instead of getting off our behinds And form crews to pick up debris, we are waiting for gringos to pay and do it for us. Coño.

LOL.....Geez, was all that necessary? why write a novel about me for this clown that you don't even know?

Like I said, English is my second language. I speak and write 3 languages . If I make a typing or spelling error on a forum don't shoot me that is not my strong points but this is a forum, some people take their education too serious over others. I'm better at math and $$$$$ and by reading a lot of people in this forum they also butcher their native language. That doesn't take away anything from their points and arguments or their politics.

Spanish grammar is a lot harder than English. I want to see you and the Pistachio Farmer try to make an argument in Spanish to see how many typing or grammar errors you make so we can all laugh at you but we wouldn't because we are not in High School.

English is not my native language but here I am making my arguments and I don't back down from anybody. A lot of people that come to this Puerto Rico forum can't speak Spanish let alone write a proper sentence in Spanish but they are all "experts" about Puerto Rico and our culture.

oh please, you and I have a lot in common and you don't even know it. You like your money and fine things in life and what's yours is yours and don't want the government in your pocket and you don't want to be dependent on the government. You rather have tax cuts than tax hikes. If you are an ex-cop like you say you are, you can't be happy how the left/democrat party throws all cops under the bus to push a political agenda. Most cops that I know and spoken to are not happy.

So to say you don't agree with me on anything, well......it's not true. Most liberals that I know are liberals with other people's money but when it comes to their money and personal things, they are very Republican and hands off my pocket.

by the way, I love speaking Spanish and writing in Spanish. It's a beautiful language. It's my native language and it's more depth than English but this forum you can only type in English. So we will never know how good or bad is your Spanish so I can take out my pen and point out your spelling and grammar errors to put you down in your place. Don't worry, I would never do that to you unless we are in a Spanish Grammar spelling class and I'm an authority to correct you, I would never call you out in public. It's arrogant and classless but I'm sure you already knew that.

Peace, waiting on the New York liberal Attorney & Pistachio Farmer to make a comeback to see how well he writes in Spanish. I bet the only Spanish he knows it's from the Mexican menu at Zukali's in New Mexico.

See? ^ I rest my case..Hellion will always be...Hellion.. .little guy, with a big chip on his shoulder, it was those Indepentista grammar school teachers he had back in Bayamon that made him so loco...
Probably had he a crush on one of them..heh heh.

I also suspect he has been nipping the Coquito tonight big time..

I was checking out his claim that he served in the US Navy a few months back, but dropped it, but now he touched a nerve..will kick the Investigation in high gear after Tres Reyes Day...
I was NCIS..2 separate tours,

Hellion, for the last time...I think this is the fourth time I am telling you...I was not a Cop..I was a plain clothes Senior Investigator attached to the NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force, ..
Please firmly ensconce this info/ Intel in that ultra thick Cabeza of yours.
Gracias. :~}

I'm 6'1"...........come on dude, you can dish it out but .......you started it about me now you complain? lol

Actually, get the story right, it was an independentista science teacher in Bayamon. Not a grammar teacher.

U.S. Navy, AW Rate. Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator (Sub-Hunters) on the P-3 Orion Squadron. Last duty station Adak, Alaska.......no need to contact your "connections" at NICS, I can email you a copy of my DD-214. Is not a national security matter, I'm proud of my service......
