I agree with Rubio. Endless status votes and debates are not helping Puerto Rico.

So Puerto Ricans should just content themselves with being second class citizens and living in a colony? You sound like George Wallace speaking about the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.

Second of all, that's not what Rubio said ... you should read the expanded article with more details:

They always vote to keep the same status they have now anyway, so what's the point. Fix the corruption and the infrastructure first and then they can restart status debates.

Rubio makes sense......and even if the Senate has 60 votes to pass a statehood bill, it will die the moment Puerto Rico has an official statehood referendum YES or NO and it will go back to the Senate and die.

I have seen this many times before, the PRO Commonwealth forces will join the Independentistas forces like Carmen Yulin and many others and kill that statehood referendum by getting 50% or a little more or less and the Senate will kill it because it doesn't have at least 2/3 of the approval of the citizens in P.R.

I always said Puerto Rico will never be taken serious in the Senate about statehood unless it has 2/3 support in the island for statehood to start the ball rolling. Populares and Independentistas when they join forces they can get close to 50% of the votes or a little less or a little more and that is that.

The American people disagree with Little Marco, yet another example of how the clueless Republicans are out of touch with reality:
Americans More Receptive to Puerto Rico as a State Than D.C. - Rasmussen Reports®

47% of Americans want Puerto Rico to become the 51st state (up from 33% in 2015), only 34% disagree (vs 39% in 2015). By the way, Rasmussen tends to oversample Republicans which means the percentage in support of statehood is likely higher in reality.

Onward to a more perfect union!

Don’t quote a poll you think is flawed. That is not a good look.

after the 2016 elections, we should take any poll with a grain of salt.

Democrats are more interested in giving benefits and voting rights to illegals than to deal with P.R......many in the leadership in the Democrat party support the Populares and Independentistas socialists in the island-like Carmen Yulin. There is no way there are 60 votes in the Senate right now to push a statehood bill and with the atmosphere in Washington, it isn't the time.

Even if the Senate passes a statehood bill, the Populares and Independentistas in the island will join forces like they have done in the past and defeat it in the referendum and it will die in the Senate for a long time.

Many independentistas socialists in the PPD party just to be in office like Carmen Yulin. She is NOT a commonwealth person and she is not for statehood. She is for a socialist type Chavista independence. The reason she is in the PPD party is she can't win elections under the indepedence party. Many independentistas in the PPD party to be in power and have a government job.

If PREPA decides to do eco-terrorism when the company is sold, it won't become a state. The USA is not going to admit as a state one that's at civil war.

I completely disagree that the Democrats are anti-statehood. That doesn't even make sense looking at it from a point of pure self-interest. A 3-4 million population state with a solid Democratic majority controlling 7-10 Congressional votes makes statehood for PR a very likely yes vote for most or all of them. It's getting at least a handful of Republicans to vote for it is the tough part. Even if it is the right thing to do ethically I doubt if too many Republicans will vote against party self-interest and do what is ethically right , what is right for the PR people, and what is right for the USA. Also, all the conservative mainland money trying to extract bond repayment money. Easier to put your foot on the neck of a powerless unincorporated Commonwealth than a full-fledge State. I'm not holding my breath for any changes from Commonwealth.

you have to learn the history of the Democrat Party and the current status of Puerto Rico and the donor class. You have to learn why the PPD always supported the Democrat Party and not the Republican party and you would understand why.
