FYI, go to the ZOO in Mayaguez. They have a display with snakes, and they have some snakes that are native to Puerto Rico. It is very interesting. What you should be careful about is not the snakes, but rather tarantulas Yup, they are here, however nobody died from their bite yet.

I have found five tarantulas so far (either that or close look alikes), most of them this fall. Our dog had one cornered and I was so afraid it would bite him. Is it necessary to do anything if you do get bitten?

Tarantulas are really harmless to humans, if you get bit, it's like getting stung by a bee. When you look at a tarantula and its fangs, they just look menacing, but if you don't bother them, they're just fine.
