There are plenty more all English private schools in the island!
Basically, those mentioned here are among the top ones.

Baldwin School of Puerto Rico
TASIS Dorado
St Johns
Academia Perpetuo Socorro
Caribbean School in Ponce
Dorado Academy in Dorado

There are plenty other nice schools... but not nescessarily among the top ones.

Marista
Berwind
La Piedad
San Jose
Col. Puertorriqueno de Ninas

Col. San Ignacio

Chaotix, you are very welcome. But according to Sandhillian there are other English speaking schools but my area of interest was very specific.
My information was based on the idea that i was looking for an all English school but one that offered two foreign languages that was part of the curriculum. I had a British education and since the TASIS School is a branch of TASIS Switzerland and England it really did spark my interest.
I was also looking into a smaller type (app. 500 students) private school and location within ten minutes from Dorado Beach East (where i live).
From what i understand i do not believe there is a Dorado Academy in Dorado (after researching a bit) but i did visit the American Military Academy and this is located in Guaynabo, PR very close to the Baldwin School.
Good luck and all the best with your home finding and relocation

Hi. Im 20 currently full time student at the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras Campus majoring in English Literature. Born in Puerto Rico lived here ever since. I attended an all english private school. It is coed, laic and overall affordable. When I attended this school tuition was about $2800 per year though nowadays it is a bit more expensive. We did have MANY american families and were all treated equally by all. We even helped them learn spanish and they helped us learn and better our english. School near San Juan are more expensive.

Robinson Private School is in the Condado area porbably $8000 a year. St.Johns is beside Robinson roughly $9000 more or less. Both are laic and all english. Now you can see the huge different from living in San Juan and living 45 minutes away from it lol. My english is equal if not better than those. The difference is those two schools prefer to have local teacher who are bilingual. The one I attended preferred american teacher who didnt at all know spanish.

Now around the San Juan area theres MANY all english schools. Dont know where the other user got that it only had 2 all english schools when PR has english as one of its official languages with spanish.

Anyway have fun with that It would have been better if you said where you were relocating too.

Thanks again desiculture, my travels will take me to Florida and Puerto Rico in the spring as I will be visiting several private schools there, will be sure to tour TASIS and Baldwin there in Puerto Rico, I will also tour Dorado Academy and St. Johns. Can you tell me what do you think about the American Military Academy?

You reside in Dorado Beach East, wow, that is an exclusive neighborhood, with million dollar homes, sure wish I could afford to live there. Can you tell me about Dorado and how do you like living in that area? I appreciate your time.

Thanks for your response. I have not decided on Puerto Rico, currently looking at Florida too. But it will most likely be in the metropolitan area if I so choose Puerto Rico.

What private english instruction school did you attend? Did you attend Dorado Academy? If so, can you tell me about the school and the environment? Thank you.

Hi All,
I maybe planning a move to PR in the near future...quite possibly in the summer of 2012. Location: to the south eastern area of PR. I have a child who feels comfortable in an all English school. Regionally, Caribbean School in Ponce and Guamani in Guyama would be the best choice due to distance from home to school. My questions are:
1. Besides these two schools, are there any other all English schools in the South Eastern region in PR?
2. How far in advance should I begin the school preparations (i.e. school testing, admission procedures etc...) since we currently live in NY?
3. Does anyone know which would of the two schools mentioned above would have smaller classroom sizes and a more nuturing/welcoming environment?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback I can receive...I've read the posts above and have helped immensely.

Thanks in advance...

To: JEPALAU
... and other readers that may have implied that i meant there are only two English schools in PR. Just to clarify i meant that the ones that were convenient to me and fit my specific needs. These two schools are the ones i would recommend to those who are interested in the specifies which i researched. That is Location, from Dorado Beach East Area, the curriculum, languages offered, school setting & campus, administrative and faculty staff, resources available, sports and extra curricular activities. In addition, school tuition did not play a part in my decision - for my specifics were the most important, to me, and my family.

To Chaotix - The American Military Academy was not one of my choices, but i do know a few families that have their children attending the school and seems happy with the decision. One of the reasons for my non-interest, was the commute from Dorado. As i mentioned i wanted a school withing a specific commute distance, i had absolutely no interest in commuting into the San Juan metropolitan area.

Yes, Dorado Beach East and the Dorado Beach area, as a whole, is a beautiful area. i love it here, there are many beautiful communities, resorts, and homes. I feel very comfortable - for after living in the mainland/New York area, i feel the need to relax in a totally different setting.
I refuse to commute for any distance - unless it is imperative to do so. In the Dorado Beach Area - i call it a "little town that has everything with no need to venture outside". There is the little post office, churches, my favorite bakery "sweet cakes", a movie house (maybe there are more, so please people, i only know one lol), a library, ... ect. ...GET THE IDEA For some this may not be appealing - for me it is perfect and what i am looking for with my relocation.
My home, as i mentioned, in Dorado Beach East has all the amenities and common areas that one can imagine. The home comes with a golf cart that you can follow the trails to many of the adjoining resorts/communities as well. There is the beach (walk/cart to it), golf courses, tennis courts, soccer field, swimming pools, gym, conference rooms/areas, lakes for fishing, and many other recreational activities that is very enjoyable for families.
Feel free to contact me when you get here ...

I believe that location of your home in PR play a great part in choosing a school for your child. You mentioned two areas - i assume you already know where about you will be living?
I made the mistake of recommending schools that are convenient to myself and caused a stir with my post ... I would me most willing to assist you in any way that i can once you have relocated.
My research was based solely on my needs and location here in PR - if this is something you would be interested in i would be able to provide a greater amount of information.
As to the question of "How long in advance?" ... based on "MY" experience - long in advance. Everyone works at there own pace. I made the error of overnighting everything express mail. It was a big mistake it was sitting in the mailbox for at lease three days before anyone took a look at it - this i found out when i called to inquire about the progress. I have been told this multiple times - quote "you know here in the islands everyone is laid back". I did not want to dissect what they meant when this was said.
But it is a different culture from the mainland and each has to respect the other. Everything turned out very well at the end ... my son did start a bit late but with direction he caught up with everything.

thank you desiculture for taking the time to respond to my post. i am in need of guidance when it comes to this as this will be our first move from nyc.

my son loves PR which makes me feel more comfortable with the idea of moving. with the exception of this year, we are usually in pr visiting family every year and stay for a couple of months so he has learned to adapt well to the culture during the summer vacations. of course, i know that may differ when he actually 'lives there'.

as any parent, my main concern is his schooling and ensuring a smooth transition both school and social wise. it's funny because i'm a college ESL teacher and of course finding a job in pr in my field should also be at the top of the list but right now getting feedback on 'his schooling' is my main focus. so i have many questions about finding a job as an ESL teacher once i have relocated in pr...i would greatly appreciate any information you may be able to offer in that area as well.

by the way, you were correct, i already know where in PR i will be living. i have family that live in pr so i am planning on visiting pr more often perhaps the ending of this year as well as next year (2011) so i can start getting the information i need hopefully for the following year. i hope starting to inquire and move things along a year before may be enough time but i won't move until i know that his schooling is set in pr.

as you can tell, i am new to this site so i will find a way to remain in contact with you so when i visit pr i can take you up on your offer and share information.

thanks again...

you are very wrong here in PR we have a lot of great english speaking schools like robinson and st johns school, baldwin school, american military academy, wesleyan academy, saint mary's school, saint francis school, carvin school, academia san jose, academia maria reina, cupeyville boneville and parkville school, colegio la piedad among others the only diffrence is that some are more expensive than others like for example saint john's is about 20,000 dolars anualy and st francis is about 2,000

but if you want great schools were they give english and spanish at the same time like colegio marista, colegio sagrados corazones, colegio san ignacio, colegio san jose,CPN,Academia Menonita and a lot of others but what i am trying to say is that in PR there are a lot of different schools with a lot of different beliefes, education methods, campus sizes and most importantly COSTS so my edvice is to look all of the privet schools that i gave you call ask all of the questions that you want and i am sure that you are going to find the perfect school for your children and yourselves.
