Are you talking about Coral Bay on St John in the US Virgin islands? Coral Bay is very quiet (as is most of St John) there are only a couple of restaurants/bars out that way and there are no casinos on either St Thomas or St John. Suggest you visit and see what it's like before you even think of moving as life is very different here than on the US mainland.

You can camp out relatively inexpensively at Cinnamon Bay Campgrounds or at Maho both on a temporary basis but otherwise would have to stay at one of the very few relatively inexpensive lodgings available before you could even think about "a bed" situation which you MIGHT come across but just isn't the norm here where even the most lenient LLs require first, last, security and more often than not a background check.

I would add that any attempt to run here from the mainland by dint of any outstanding warrant or anything else and expecting not to be found is a thing of the past.

Cyberspace technology has caught up big time in these areas. I have wonderful tales about such cases going back 25 years and more, but those tales are quickly disappearing. The local news media is now pretty much replete with simple stories about how a stateside felon was arrested while living here.

Best beware and not presume.

You really can't organize anything to do with living here on any of the islands without making a dedicated pre-move visit (PMV) to see what might be available as far as employment and accommodations are concerned. St John is the most expensive island on which to live, St Thomas runs a close second followed by St Croix. None are "inexpensive" and living "the simple life" is still very expensive. For more details you might want to check out USVI Moving Center - The Ultimate Resource for Relocating to and Living in the Virgin Islands where you will find an abundance of information on COL and everything else under the sun along with moving stories and an active forum.

If you plan to move "cold turkey" best to have around $10K to get you started off. It'll quickly be eaten up with that first, last and one month security rental, purchase of an island car along with the related insurance and registration fees, etc, etc.. Putting up a tent and living off the land and the sea is an old dream which is long gone and lost. Good luck!
