The Huffington Post reported on a job ad that said, "The Unemployed Will Not be Considered."

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

Is it just me, or do the rest of also find that to be extremely offensive if not outright unAmerican? To me it reeks of class warfare--if you are not part of the employed class you are not welcome to become part of the employed class. If the revolution ever comes, I think that the cretin who decided that unemployed people are unqualified is guillotine worthy. I hope that this company gets outed so it can be boycotted.

Thoughts?

According to this link:

WORLD CLASS STUPID ''The Unemployed Will not be Considered'' - U.S. Politics - Marketwatch Group Discussion

supposedly Sony Ericsson placed an ad (elsewhere) that said "No Unemployed Candidates Will Be Considered At All" and then later retracted it claiming that it was a mistake. Wanna bet that the actual hiring policy remains the same?

I sure would like to learn the identity of the company that advertised at The People Place. Perhaps masses of angry unemployed people should picket them and create a national news incident.

<EDIT> The identity of the company that placed the ad at People Place may be Benchmark Electronics according to this source:

This should be reported to the Department of Labor in that area.

I wonder if Benchmark Electronics receives tax breaks. Could it also be argued that refusing to consider unemployed people could be some sort of form of racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination since some groups tend to have more unemployment than other groups?

As far as I know Benchmark Electronics doesn't manufacture any consumer goods, but I think they're definitely boycott worthy. I'd love to see a group of 1000 angry unemployed people show up in front of their offices without warning with picket signs to create a national news incident.

Someone in that company that thought to document this "discrimination advertisement" should be reported to the Department of Labor. Hopefully, then that fool will be on the outside looking for an in.

Even better send the Advertisement to the MEDIA.... They will feed on it.

Apparently it is 100% legal to advertise that in job postings....

I turned away someone because he was unemployed for over a year. In our field, 6 to 8 weeks max. I've also turned away people for various other reasons, including crooked teeth (referencing another post). Yes, it may be unfair, but my positions are client-facing and it DOES matter.

It's quite a catch 22. You need a job to get a job. If you had a job, you wouldn't need a job. But hey, If I had a Billion dollars, I wouldn't need a job either.

6-8 weeks max ? In THIS economy/job market? It must be a very narrow niche field then.
