Those who think "You can just get a job" in this economy ought to be sentenced to a year on the unemployment lines. That is not possible, but this November we can do that to our politicians. Some incumbents have already been thrown out. Does this belong on the Politics forum?
I try not to judge people based on their financial or professional situation, sometimes unfortunate things happen to people through no fault of their own. Sure, there are deadbeats out there that just want to milk the system, no question. But most unemployed people I know (or have known) are just down on their luck and trying their best to find a respectable, halfway decent job. In fact, a few of them were once very vocal about their negative opinions regarding the unemployed: their tune has changed now that it's happened to them too. "Judge not....." & all that.
I always had sympathy for the laid-off or downsized. Now it's epidemic for a lot of reasons like outsourcing jobs overseas or corporate greed.
Its especially brutal for older Americans who dont even rate an interview.
DELETED: Keep political smack in the Politics forum.
I used to think the answer was "stick in there, you'll find something soon if you keep persistent."
I keep telling myself that, but for more than 2 years how it hasn't worked for finding anything permanent.
I also never thought it could be possible someone as ambitious and persistent as myself with a very likeable personality could be unemployed for so long.
