Default FYI Dateline tonight

Apparently there is going to be a segment on the 99ers, or at least that's how it's been advertised - those who've run out of benefits but still don't have a job.

Not sure what time zone everyone is in. I live in the northeast and just watched this one.....America Now: Friends and Neighbors - Dateline NBC - America Now - msnbc.com

I cant believe how bad it was for those folks in Ohio....I know the poster here from Ohio is one of the good ones and he aint lying about their situation. Some spots in Ohio with 20%+ unemployment. Hungry people writing on paper plates sending them to Washington in hopes of getting help......Sad for 1950, let alone 2010.

It was just on Dateline at 7pm eastern time.

Ohio Gov. Strickland said two very moving statements:

The first: "in the past 25 years it has become fashionable to be selfish"...Oh how that was so eloquently said and so true!

I was born in 1950, I was raised to think about others and I have seen this selfishness premeate our society.

Second along those same lines "it has also become common place for people with jobs to be prejudice against poor people".

I see this every day, the last time I was in the unemployment office a young man in front of me had just got laid off from a well paying job and he turned to me and said look at a table full of people - I never thought I'd become one of "THEM" with distain and disgust. Even several friends are appalled that I'm getting food stamps and go on tirades about seeing people in line at the grocery store buying what they deem in appropriate food stuffs, I try to explain that only certain items are allowed and they would be paying cash for that 6 pack of beer...maybe they were celebrating on getting a job or got some work...who knows...but the 'tude is just amazing and so heartless.

Unfortunately it really didn't focus on 99ers - but it was certainly painful to watch.

It showed that for those who were already struggling, this recession hit hardest.

That poor guy being laid off from 10 companies one after the other. It was hard to watch him say he was worth more to his 2 boys dead than alive.

Too bad that Dateline doesn't show where all the jobs went, the tons of goods coming over from China and Mexico and the millions of people coming illegally over the border to work dirt cheap here. Obviously the jobs are there, the CEO's are getting rich if they outsource but the taxes and regulations on businesses that employ Americans are unbearable.

NBC knows, but they're against the AZ law. Imagine having to show proof you belong in this country.

Funny when I travel outside of the US I always have my passport on me.
