I'm trying to understand why government programs are so well established for those who are pregnant, have children, have temporary hardships w/children, and those who make a career relying on others to support them. While the red carpet is rolled out for them, I have known people who are educated who experienced hardships via the economy or natural disasters to their properties and there is NO ASSISTANCE for them. What's wrong with this picture? Single man/woman with no children, property, laid off or fired with unemployment.........you make TOO MUCH MONEY so we can't see that you can barely get food to eat after trying to pay mortgage/rent, utilities, car, etc. so the very system you paid into to help others does not recognize your needs. Why is this the case? Someone please explain why this happens?

I share your frustration. Have a friend- whose never worked, two kids, plans to never work if possible......never married the dad but he lives with her. She gets:
Food stamps ($430 a month)
AFDC ($820.00 a month)
Section 8 housing (which means she pays only 30% of her income- which is the $820.00 given to her )

He works and lives in her section 8 Housing unit which is nice than most working people get.

I get so sick of seeing it. I've known her since elementary or I'd probably write her off as a lost cause. She has a cell phone, internet connection- Directv........etc. Wants for nothing. His money pays for their new cars and play time.

She's been reported by family......Nothing was done. The guy moves out for a while but no sooner is back in.

As long as she does not disclose who the father is, he can not be held financially responsible for those kids or her. It takes paternity tests which a court has to order......It's a big deal to get someone on Welfare fraud. Bigger than just me.

My point was not to take on the welfare frauds of the world or to be the one to take em all down, it was to say that it's wrong to continue to help those who fail to help themselves, but not help those who continue to help themselves. It's a circular argument, at best.

The next time the gov is squawking about Welfare, this is a point to remember.

The welfare system was enacted under Roosevelt during the Great Depression to help those who were literally starving in the streets.......It was not designed as a way of life as those who use it today, treat it. It should stop when jobs are plentiful......It stuck, therefore a portion of the population learned to depend/rely on it..... Through many generations.

Have you tried simply reporting her for the HUD Section 8 violation? I doubt very much that it is part of their regs that it is okay for the LL to be living in the premises he is collecting Sec 8 rent for, regardless of whether he is any way "related" to her or her offspring.

Nope- I have enough on my plate just dealing with my own problems. She's not my project. Plenty of friends and family are fed up with her.......I'm sure someone or something will catch up to her eventually.

Anyway-
