I tried googling my questions before coming here to annoying anyone, BUT of course I got conflicting answers, usually TyPeD LyK DiSz.

Anyway, I am moving from NJ to TX. Where would I find out if relocation makes me eligible for unemployment benefits. Also, would I collect from the state I was working and living in OR the state I am moving to?
I am moving with the intention of immediately finding work, but trying to cover my ass in every way possible. Wondering if relocation is even a viable reason, or if it could be used as reasoning for unemployment, in the event I move and am unable to find work....

Default ........lets end the confusion right here

Unemployment is for when you lose your job through no fault of your own, not for when you CHOOSE to relocate, or we'd all be doing it.

It's not a choice. This is a military move, however his orders technically do not include me, because we're not married. I was told that SOME states honor relocation. That is the purpose of the question, to clear up whether or not this is true.

Yes, some states do pay unemployment benefits if the claimant's spouse is being relocated. Not sure if this applies to military spouses. Pretty sure it would not apply to you if you are not married, unless NJ has domestic partnership laws that would allow unemployment benefits to unmarried partners.

To answer some of your questions, you can live in another state and at the same time collect benefits from the state in which you were last employed. TX would be your resident state, NJ your claiming state. If you are quitting a job in NJ, you would apply to NJ. Your benefits, if you are found eligible, would be paid by NJ. You would continue to claim through NJ.

Call NJ and see if you can get a knowledgeable rep. I think your chances for eligibility are remote, primarily because you are not married - but you never know.

New Jersey does approve unemployment benefits for a spouse or a civil union partner who voluntarily leaves work to join his/her partner in relocation for military service. However, unless you are in a legally recognized civil union, it is unlikely you will be granted benefits if you voluntarily leave your job.

A guide to states' unemployment compensation for military spouses can be found here:
