Personally, I don't think anything will happen for at least another week. The good news is, the media has been blasting the airwaves and TV all day making Unemployment Extensions the top news story.

You're right! As previously posted on this thread (see post below), it's been generally acknowledged that the next few votes in the Senate will not pass such legislation, but are simply "symbolic" -- until the Democrats and Republicans come to a compromise.

Neither bill is expected to pass -- as these votes are considered to be more about "stating positions for the record" and "staking out positions" in ongoing talks between the Obama administration and lawmakers aimed at striking a bipartisan compromise.

As the talks evolve, more bills are expected to be introduced.

Gabriel

For some reason when those on tier 1-3 run out of UI checks the media runs with it but then as soon as they Extend them they stop.Media and Washington and most all the others careless about us 99ers.

If the media covered the 99ers like they do the people on tier 1-4 we might get somewhere.

Thats because they don't understand that just because they pass an extension it doesn't effect all the unemployed.

This is the truth. Us 99ers than sit back and watch everything around us happen just because we happened to be laid off at an earlier time?

It's very simple: give the greedy millionaire bast**** who corrupt the congress their precious tax break and if the government is not capable of stimulating the job market, then by all means extend unemployment benefits at least as long as the "Bush tax cuts" are in effect

It's a scam what the democrats are doing. People who make 250k+ are not millionaires. In NYC 250k is gone after property taxes (15k/yr), taxes (100k), train (6-8k/yr) food, etc..

A millionaire will already pay 30-40% in taxes (state, federal, local), etc. So he's really only making 600k. But most millionaires are doing something. It's called hiring someone. If the government takes his/her money, they will NOT hire.

I was watching AC 360 on CNN last night and they had a discussion on extending UE with Roland Martin and another fellow. The other fellow said that this is all great theatre right now and of course benefits are going to be extended. Okay, so, when is this going to happen???

As expected, the Baucus bill that includes extending federal unemployment benefits -- as well as extending limited Bush tax cuts -- failed to pass in the Senate today.

Next up in the Senate -- a proposal by Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) that would extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanently for incomes of up to $1 million, as well as provide a one-year extension of federal unemployment benefits. That proposal is also expected to fail.
