Hi All-

Not sure where to turn, so thought I would consult the shared wisdom on this board.

I have been unemployed since end-of-year 2009. Although I have been aggressively looking for full-time work, I've found the transition difficult. Anyhow, that said, I have periodically worked part-time over the past year. I have also done a bit of business brokering for a former client of my prior employer. The amount of (net) money I have made is quite small...probably less than $2k. Regardless, I have claimed that anonymous (other) relationship for my UC claims, as well as the other employer I worked for. I believe that I've accounted for all of the monies I've made for those employers in 2010.

Fast forward: my unemployment benefits expired earlier this month and I called the PA unemployment office (last state of employment, but live in NJ) today about the extension and they asked me a series of questions, including if I was employed in 2010. I was transparent and told them yes, as well as the names of the employers. However, the business brokering relationship may be sticky. I'm not sure whether the employer is going to issue me a 1099 or W2. The unemployment rep said that I would need to file additional paperwork for an extension and then a determination would be made. Should I speak with the employer @ issuing a W2, bother filing for an extension or am I opening-up a can of worms? To-date, I've been able to file employment claims with no issues.

I'm just trying to survive and the amount of additional money I've made over the past 12-months is paltry. I did read that PA and NJ have a home based business program that still allows folks to file for unemployment -- Is anyone familiar with this program and would that qualify for the business brokering arrangement in 2010? I don't want to get into any hot water and definitely don't want any fines or retroactive penalties. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Happy Holidays!
