Thanks, diorgirl. Talk about navigating the shoals of unemployment benefits.

It is SO UNFAIR for someone to accept short-term employment and, as a result, be ineligible for EB, while others can stretch the rules via inadequate work search and still be allowed reinstatement.

Universally, it seems to me, people who in good faith accept work and then find themselves laid off, should not be punished in this way. It is wrong. Why would anyone in the early weeks of EB accept short-term work? They won't.

I'm a union electrician. If Im offered a 2-3 week job. I'm going to really have to think about the situation I'm in before i accept any short term work.

You will only be able to work alternate weeks. What a shame. I'd like to hear an official explanation for this stupidity. And then they complain about entitlements - yet make it impossible for people to work their way off them.

What Diorgirl posted was correct. My friend at the Department of Labor got confirmation from his higher ups that EB has to be paid out in consecutive weeks. It is a shame that people who are taken off EB for not meeting the stringent requirements can go back on after 4 weeks of work.

He did note that the State knows about the problems people taking short term jobs are experiencing with this and there could be a fix coming. However, it has to be done on a federal level and state level in terms of law.

So, I DID call NJ unemployment. The woman I spoke with told me she would re-open my claim. Yesterday, I got a BLUE form in the mail, instructing me to claim benefits on 2/8 for weeks ending 1/29 and 2/5.It also shows a balance of 0. Don't know what THIS means.
