Today while I was looking for work as ususal there are a new rash of scam jobs showing up.
They are advertising for Admins/Receptionists etc. for exorbitant salaries, if you click on the link it takes you to a website that is obviously data mining...so becareful out there, I know we are all so desperate for work but if it sounds too good to be true it is.
What they are doing is providing a link off site that is a fake company or recruiter website that will ask you to fill out an application for the job - hence data mining. The best thing to do is to google the company/recruiter name and if you find nothing about them or complaints don't continue on.
The biggest red flag is the salary they are offering it's generally way above what would be normal for the area. For instance in my area admin/reception work runs 8-9 an hour and at the most 10 an hour...these jobs are advertising for almost double that amount.
I've seen several actually steal a job description from a legitimate job and paste it right into their fake one.
So everyone have their spam/scam radar hat on when looking for work.

Usually I'm suspicious of any job that offers more than poverty wages.
Flakelist rules....almost every scam and spam on craigslist is on flakelist. I actually took off my street address off my resume because of so many of these stupid email responses. They ask you to click and run a credit check, fill out surveys, personality and IQ tests, sign up with other job boards, etc. It's just insane. My favorite is the generic long a*s email that ask for your personal info that's already on your resume. The foreign guy says he needs an assistant to do bank stuff, accounting, and ship stuff for him (with your money and your bank account) and he will reimburse you when he comes to the U.S.
The only legitimate email response to a resume is a either a phone call or an email discussing an interview on company letterhead email (full name, title, company name address, phone, fax, website). Every other type of email response is certified B.S.
So I have been applying to job postings on Craigstlist. I ask for company info, location if the ad doesn't say. Also if they require any additional computer software experience for the position.
I received one response saying:
"The background checking service we were using was very expensive so we've created our own way to verify your work eligibility.
You're going to need to bring the following documents with you to the interview. A drivers license, photo ID, or passport and a copy of a recent credit score within the last 7 days. If you don't have a recent copy, we recommend you get one Here from a service we trust. They offer a free trial with no cost to you."
Another response said:
"We have reviewed your application and have decided to introduce you to the next phase of our application process."
UM, I didn't send an application. I just asked the above questions.
What the heck - are these scams? Somebody please reply.
They are scams. Don't give them any information. Unfortunately, they are all over the job sites trying to prey on the unemployed.
