Ok, so still out of work, before I was laid off, I applied to company , we will call "X" for this conversation, for a position that was similar to my last one, but with better benefits I thought, more time off, better 401k, etc. I refused the position because the salary was only $32k. Much less than I was making at the time

Well, now, I am quickly, as in 2 weeks coming to the end of my 26 weeks of UI benefits, getting no responses from resumes I'm sending, sent resume back to this 2 days ago, and they called me today, I have an interview Tuesday. Guess I really have to take it, if I am offered. one good perk is 4 weeks vacation, and dollar for dollar match on 401k up to 6%.

Thought of no income vs some $ is a no brainer. Thank god for my wife and her salary

I could always keep looking in the interim. As a side note, friend is a recruiter for IT, not my field, said one posting he places can generate 1000 or more resumes. This is no joke...I have an MBA, don't know if that holds any weight any longer but Maybe people think I am over qualified??

Probably salary is more or less equal to your unemployment benefit. Look on the bright side - other than SS deduction, you won't have much of a tax liability. Stash as much as you can into 401K to avoid income taxes. It is easier to find another job if you are employed. If you get this position, it may be a blessing in disguise.

I agree with Ariadne and think you are darn lucky they are even calling you back for an interview. Once you turn down a job, its usual to be crossed off the list of possibles, IMHO. So, go for it, take it if offered, and keep on looking. Better than sitting around waiting for something better. It may come, but it also may not, in this economy.

Maybe they will offer you more now that you turned down the $32k? But any money is better than no money and with your exhaustion coming up, I'd take it and keep looking. I know someone who took a not so great job after looking for 2 years and 9 months later landed the job of their dreams with another company.

This is an absolute no brainer! Accept the offer, if for no other reason than something to add to your resume and to keep your job skills up. The longer you remain unemployed, the more difficult it will be for you landing a new job.
