Default Is Approval for Self-Employment Needed EACH Benefit Year?

When I opened my current unemployment claim, because I had reported some contract (self employment) income, California EDD scheduled me for a phone interview. They approved me for self-employment (it's really just piece work). The approval was apparently good for the duration of the claim, because when I later reported small amounts of self-employment income, that did not trigger any questions or phone interviews.

I am coming up on the end of my benefit year. EDD will file a new state claim on my behalf, that will get rejected (I do not have enough w-2 earnings to qualify), and I should go back on the federal EUC. At least that is what they told me.

Question: Will I have to have another phone interview to again approve self-employment for a NEW benefit year? I do not have any self-employment income right now, but I am looking for projects. What I am concerned about is if anything I do (like take a 3 day contract office job) triggers a phone interview, the wait to have the interview can take up to six weeks if not longer (which means no unemployment income for a VERY long time).

Or will my 'original' approval for self employment remain in effect

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! Answers deeply appreciated.

If its 1099 income, it should not have any effect at all unless you made a lot and then it might affect the amount UE pays you.
