Hi! I'm in California and I am doing tier 1 right now. I also work part-time, too, so my weekly benefits aren't in even amounts. I was wondering what happens if you run out of money in tier one when you submit a two week claim form?
For example, let's say my weekly benefit is $300 and I only have $100 left on my tier. So, I submit my claim form for 2 weeks. Will I only get the $100 for both weeks or will I get $100 for the one week and $300 for the following week and start on tier 2?
Technically, CA does not commingle two tiers in the same biweekly claim period. You will get one set of claim forms showing $100 for one week, with the 2nd week X'd out, or possibly just one form for that remaining week. Then CA will immediately send you a form for Tier 2 for one week for full amount. After that you should be on regular biweekly claiming for Tier 2. It's a bookkeeping thing. One tier has to be exhausted before beginning the next. There should be no gap in payments.
That sounds reasonable. But, I have had problems where they were supposed to send me a one week form and they sent me a two week form, instead. We shall see if they do it correctly this time. I think that even if they sent me a two week form for those weeks, they would send two one-week forms back to me after I sent it in and I would just have a delayed payment.
I'll let everyone know what happens.
