Stopping by and asking if there are any openings may not be acceptable if the employer can't verify it. Though you could luck out, it would be better to apply at places that have advertised openings and get into their system so that if UE calls they can verify the contact.

Yes, you must keep a log but actual contact data is not available for many job postings. Back in the day when jobs were advertised in the newspaper you had what they call "blind box ads". The only information available was the title and the address the resume was sent to but they were legitimate search contacts. If the information is available UE may contact a company but in most cases they don't have enough information to make a contact outside of the claimant. Do you really think UE has time to spend actually verifying contacts? Maybe in your state they do, but in a big metro like Chicago, I guarantee they are not checking.

You are worrying people for nothing. Claimants can only provide the data they have. It is the employers (albeit blindly) fault for not providing enough information in their ads for UE to verify contacts.
