I made HUGE mistake by not claiming my biweekly benefits for about 30days (I'm on Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC)) and when I tried to claim online the system did not let me claim and gave me this error: "Your certification cannot be processed." ...I called the Unemployment office and they told me I have to "reopen" my claim and they cannot do it by phone and I "must" do it online, when I tried to reopen my claim online, I got this message:

You cannot continue to file for Unemployment Insurance at this stage.

You cannot continue to file for Unemployment Insurance benefits because you have an existing Unemployment Insurance claim on file, and your claim balance is zero. You may be eligible for an extension. Please call 732-761-2020, 201-601-4100, or 856-507-2340. If you reside out of state, please contact a Claims Agent at 888-795-6672. Claims Agents should be contacted during our normal business hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

PLEASE advice me ...any tips or info will be appreciated. I tried to call back the office, after hours on hold the system hanged up on me :'( . now i can't pay my bills.

The reason why I didn't claim for long time is because I thought I claimed on the 16th last month "my electronic organizer error" and the last week I couldn't claim because power out due to the hurricane in NJ ..and I have been so stressed and depressed and not thinking straight ...worst time in my life

The agent you spoke with gave you wrong information. It happens all the time. Call NJ back - or better yet - go to a local NJ office. People often have their claims closed when they get temp work and stop claiming. When reopening the claim, you need to call.

You could go here:

Morris County
Complete list of offices here:

Department of Labor and Workforce Development | One-Stop Career Centers

What happens is you use their phone banks to speak to a UE rep. Many people visit the NJ offices. Reopening an existing claim should not present problems.

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

P.S. Thx for the offer on the computer. I've been successful solving my own problems thus far. Google has been my friend. Replaced parts, got rid of viruses, installed, uninstalled, and installed various antimalware and antivirus, cured memory leaks, popups, etc. As long as I have internet, I can usually figure it out. But, I'll keep you in mind. Ya' never know.

OK ...I went to the Morristown location today and the security guard told me there is only one employee handles the unemployment and "her chair is empty" and I asked him if he can help me in anyway he said "I'm a security guard the only way i can help you is kick you out!!!" lol wow ...then I drove to Dover, they refused to help me initially, they told me I'm doing it wrong online ...after discussion they reopened my claim and set an interview date .. what questions do you think the examiner will ask? what should I tell the examiner? ...anyway, thank you Ariadne22 so much, without your advice I'd have believed them <3

i don't know i always make sure my claim is processed and in my bank account. i would do anything to not interact with anyone from unemployment. your problem claiming after the storm is going to be very common so i would not worry about that period. your biggest issue is going to be waiting 6 weeks at least to get your money. NJ unemployment is already overwhelmed with the highest unemployment rates plus the storm people too now. its not a fast process. my biggest tip to you is be by your phone when they call.

"survival of the fittest" if filing unemployment is to complicated your going to have a lot of trouble down the road. my advice is to be honest and if you don't qualify for the 2 weeks than just take the rest of it. your story is not relateable to me because i would never put myself in that spot that's how much i don't want to deal with unemployment reps. it might sound mean but you got to be smarter than that in life. my feeling is you will get at least 2 weeks + whatever you continue to file for but your bigger problem is how long it takes to get this all worked out. they move small.
