You do exactly what that online message told you to do. You CALL NJ and speak to a rep. This is a routine bye recertification, per FAQS:
Quote:
8. I've been collecting for a year and am on Tier 2. My claim expires next week. What happens now?

Some states automatically perform the recertification process as long as you continue to file weekly or biweekly claims. In most states, you will need to telephone your state to RECERTIFY your claim. Your state will do a monetary reevaluation for a new claim. If you have not had eligible earnings during your past benefit year, your "application for a new claim" will be denied, your old claim reopened and you continue to receive benefits on that claim.

Your benefits will continue until you have exhausted Tier 3.

Because the earnings NJ used for your claim did not support a better benefit. All of these matter:

1. What is your exact work history?
2. $$ of earnings in each quarter
3. What does NJ letter of UI Award use as earnings?
4. When did you file for benefits?

Nope. You probably were in such a hurry to file you didn't look into how important WHEN you file is in determining your benefit.

NJ website clearly tells you how it calculates earnings.

Department of Labor and Workforce Development | What is Needed to Qualify? Did You Earn Enough?

Had you waited until the beginning of the next quarter to file, your claim would probably have been a great deal better.

Use this - play with your quarters - you'll find out soon enough:

Department of Labor and Workforce Development

Yours is a common story on this board - we get at least one or two a week. People are in such a rush to file for benefits, they do not educate themselves on how the program works, and thus do no strategic planning, resulting in a small claim and no EUC eligibility.

Your only hope might be if you had earnings in another state which NJ did not use. But you didn't bother to answer any of the questions I asked two weeks ago, so I can only assume NJ used all your eligible earnings for whatever base period it applied in your case.

Help. I cannot recertify for unemployment benefits. Online says I cannot continue and the phone system hangs up on me. I am nowhere near my anniversary. I have tried four different phone numbers and every possible combination. I've entered my ss# and then I get told that my reporting day is Monday (which is today), then the system hangs up on me (it apparently doesn't know when Monday is...). When i requested the opportunity to speak with an assistant, I was placed in dead air space for 10 minutes. I eventually hung up. What is wrong with this system? Does Gov. Christie pay attention?
