I submitted my claim form for my final CA payment on Sunday (for week ending 12/14/13). I understand that the Federal extended benefits are currently set to expire at the end of the year, but will I qualify for Federal benefits for the weeks ending on 12/21/13 and 12/28/13? If so, do I need to take any steps to register for the Federal benefits? According to what I read on the EDD website, most people are transitioned to Federal benefits automatically at the expiration of their state benefit payments.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It should be automatic.

I'm in Massachusetts and in the exact same position. My regular UE ended week ending 12/14, and I'd like to know if they move you automatically to a federal tier. I tried to call Massachusetts to see if I will be able to collect for week ending 12/21 and 12/28 on a federal extension, but I cannot get thru to speak to a human!

So you don't have to "apply" for a federal tier, right? The state just automatically moves you over to one?

It's not universal. We know from past postings that CA for sure does it automatically. In my state of AZ as of 7/2011 (it may still be true), you had to physically apply. Until you know for a fact, you need to do something, or you might end up losing out on weeks of benefits that you were entitled to.
