The unemployed don't have lobbyists advocating for them anywhere remotely similar to those advocating corporate tax breaks for example. This is also part of the issue.
The EUC is expected to pass in the Senate today - so there is a glimmer of hope still.
From Washington Post:-
"While many of the House members seemed bullish on their chances of supporting the legislation, Democratic aides say they were encouraged by some of the responses".
so basically the dems know this will not got passed and really no one is fighting for it at this point, but dems are looking for future votes so they act like they are. is that what everyone is getting too?
I really don't think this was all for show by the dems. Harry Reid really has done what the Republicans asked for. They wanted it short term and paid for. He compromised and did that. It also creates jobs and stimulates the economy which was another Republican request. It seems no matter what he does, they find another reason to oppose and stall, until they can finally say it's too late to pass it as it will expire as soon as it passes. but I still don't understand why Pelosi backed down from her original demand in December "there will be no budget agreement without an extension of ui included". I knew back then this would be a long rocky road.

The Democrats are the party of income redistribution. They are doing this by pushing for things like extended unemployment benefits, a higher minimum wage, equal pay for women, and federal-government-funded universal preschool programs. I agree this was not done for show by the Dems.
I know very well which party is the party of income redistribution. I just cant write it here for fear it will be deleted. I always have and always will vote dem.
The unpopularity of ObamaCare and its disastrous rollout combined with the sinking poll numbers of the president may all combine to bring both houses of Congress under GOP control in January 2015. The GOP is not feeling the heat from the unemployment situation, and the 2.3m long term unemployed might not be enough to influence the outcome of the mid-term election. That's why rhetoric like "this bill will not be allowed on the house floor" and "the bill is a waste of time" are given.
It's true, whatever party you vote. The republicans aren't shaking in their boots because they feel like unemployment is a non issue and other problems could win then the elections.
