The unemployed don't have lobbyists advocating for them anywhere remotely similar to those advocating corporate tax breaks for example. This is also part of the issue.

The EUC is expected to pass in the Senate today - so there is a glimmer of hope still.

From Washington Post:-

"While many of the House members seemed bullish on their chances of supporting the legislation, Democratic aides say they were encouraged by some of the responses".

I really don't think this was all for show by the dems. Harry Reid really has done what the Republicans asked for. They wanted it short term and paid for. He compromised and did that. It also creates jobs and stimulates the economy which was another Republican request. It seems no matter what he does, they find another reason to oppose and stall, until they can finally say it's too late to pass it as it will expire as soon as it passes. but I still don't understand why Pelosi backed down from her original demand in December "there will be no budget agreement without an extension of ui included". I knew back then this would be a long rocky road.

The Democrats are the party of income redistribution. They are doing this by pushing for things like extended unemployment benefits, a higher minimum wage, equal pay for women, and federal-government-funded universal preschool programs. I agree this was not done for show by the Dems.

It's true, whatever party you vote. The republicans aren't shaking in their boots because they feel like unemployment is a non issue and other problems could win then the elections.
