This doc-fix bill went through house and now senate in less than a week. So anything is possible when they want it to be. Boehner wanted the doc-fix before the march 31 expiration...So maybe that means he will give in on EUC....or not. Just speculating.
So, Sen Reid is making a series of amendment to H.R. 3979. The Unemployment bill is progressing as outlined from Sen Reed (which is posted on pages 3 &7 of this thread).
The #Senate adopted the motion to proceed to HR 3979, the vehicle for #RenewUI, by a voice vote. They now have to wait 30 hours to do a final vote before it goes to the house. looks like they are on schedule so far to vote on it by the end of this week
"The Senate voted today (voice vote) to move legislation to restore federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) which expired on December 28, 2013 forward. The agreement would provide for a 5 month extension retroactive to December 28 and has bipartisan support. A final vote in the Senate is expected this week. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) tweeted "I'm confident Senate will pass #renewUI this week. Hopefully, House Republicans have soft hearts and strong minds and allow it to pass too."
If passed in the Senate, the legislation, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2014 Reed-Heller and others, would then need to be passed by the House."
They are on step 3 of senator Reed's outline. Cloture would be filed on Wenesday.
"Under Rule 22, the cloture vote on the substitute amendment (UI) will occur on Wednesday. Senators will be notified when the cloture vote is scheduled. If cloture is invoked, there would be up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate time prior to a vote on adoption of the substitute amendment. Upon disposition of the substitute, the Senate would then proceed to a cloture vote on the underlying bill. If cloture is invoked on the underlying bill, there would be up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate on prior to passage of the bill, as amended, if amended".
