Hi All, I just registered this website for this question. I've been continuously working for the past 8 years, from Aug 2013 to July 2014 in NJ, and in Colorado previously. I was working on a project in a research institution, since the project ended, I lost my job since this Aug. Fortunately I found a new job which starts in Jan.2015. Can I still claim benefits from now on until Jan 2015? Am I eligible for all the criteria? Thanks!
If you're asking if you can stop looking for work and keep claiming for benefits, the answer is no. You can collect so long as you are out of work and keep doing what you've been doing each and every week. Thing is that job that you think is going to start in January might not materialize.
When you start working, you can stop claiming, but in the event you start on a Thursday, Friday, or maybe even a Wednesday, it's possible to qualify for a partial UI check so keep that in mind before you decide to just stop outright.
