This is an excerpt from the CA unemployment benefit guide:
1. Claim Beginning Date: Your claim begins on the Sunday of the
week in which you fi led your claim. It is not based on the date
you became unemployed.
2. Claim Ending Date: This is the date your claim year ends.
This date is 52 weeks from the claim beginning date. Benefi ts
remaining on this claim cannot be paid for weeks claimed after
the claim ending date. A new claim must be fi led if you are still
unemployed or partially unemployed after this date.
3. Maximum Benefit Amount: The amount shown is your
maximum UI award for this claim. The maximum award is 26
times the weekly benefit amount or one-half of the total base
period wages, whichever is less (see page 4, Item 5, for an
explanation of the term base period). When you have received
your maximum award, no further benefits are payable. You cannot
fi le another California UI claim until your current claim year ends.
What doesn't make any sense to me is the conflicts between paragraph 2 and 3. P2 states that a claim can continue for 52 weeks and then P3 says that the maximum benefit amount is 26 times the weekly amount which implies that there can be a maximum of 26 weeks. So does this mean CA unemployment insurance is for a maximum of 26 weeks (~ 6mos)?
What if your funds are gone but you still have 6 months left on your claim... im confused like the first guy it seems your funds will always run out at 26 weeks but your claim is for 52 weeks? does that mean the extensions go into effect when the money runs out at 26 weeks or does it extend the actual length of the claim... so confused?
I exhausted my UI 26 weeks claim in Aug 2010 already. Does that mean I can file another CA UI claim starting 2011? What's mean by "you have received your maximum award, no further benefits are payable." "You cannot file another California UI claim until your current claim year ends?"

You would file for another benefit year when your first benefit year expires. When did you open your claim? Unless for some reason your benefits are limited, you should qualify for EUC Tier 1 for an 20 additional weeks during your first benefit year. California normally transitions you to that. That "maximum award" language may apply only to the 26 weeks' state benefits. Have you continued to claim since August? I hope so.
they say i qualify but no claims are attatched to my checks and only one week claim forms from 386 every 2 weeks to 166every 2 weeks
