I think it's safe to say that since the the almost half a point increase in the unemployment rate, they have to extend the expiration dates. Employment isn't going to be in the black for awhile. That estimate of a peak unemployment rate of 10.5% is now wayoff. More like 11%.

Hi guys,
Hey, good job to start a new thread. WE made it to over 300 over there what a fantastic resource for what was likely WAY more than we realized. When you figure more people read than post.
Trying to stay on topic with this may be shade of gray for thread but I need help and it may be something to be aware of for many is what my state just posted about the extension. I am wondering if other states will be also having trouble with the full 20 weeks. Anybody know anything about this? thanks and I will continue to support any way I can. Good group of folks here.
On Friday, November 6, 2009, President Obama signed new federal legislation making further unemployment extension benefits available. The first eligible week for the new benefits is the week starting Sunday, November 8, 2009. Any time spent unemployed and without benefits before then is not covered by the new federal legislation.
Although the new extensions do provide the potential for up to 20 additional weeks of benefits for higher unemployment states, including California, it’s likely six weeks of those benefits won’t be available due to pending federal filing deadlines at the end of the year.
The new extensions set new records for benefit weeks available in a federal extension program and will require complex programming to implement. EDD is working around the clock to ensure payments can be made as quickly as possible. It’s currently estimated that will take several weeks.
In the meantime, there is no need to contact EDD. We will be contacting potentially eligible claimants and notifying them of developments. Once programming is in place, we will follow up with further instructions and automatically file the extensions for as many of our clients as possible. We may also need to contact some clients at that time and request further information. Please watch this Web site for further updates.

hi guys, glad i moved over to this thread.
im glad everyone that is needing tier 3 will get it so at least during holiday time they can have some peace.
next tier5-10 will be payed for by the the top 1% of the income earners
since their greed caused this mess.
now you all have to put up with my ranting and raving untill HR 3404 IS passed .
my take is that they will have to pass it
rep mcdermott is the one we will have to keep calling to check on its progress .
thanks shilzz too for starting it.

So only 14 of the 20 weeks are guaranteed? I wouldn't be surprised this whole thing has been like pulling teeth. I'm glad my eb runs out November 30th, so at least I'll get the 14 weeks. Thanks for starting a new thread.
I live in Michigan

mr nj this may cause more confusion
are you saying that any one who is still being paid and hasnt ran out of extensions will get 6 weeks more added to thier extensions even if the extension runs into 2010?

No, I am saying that the only tier that can be started in 2010 is tier 4 and that is only available for people that exhausted tier 3 in 2010 based on Nelps press release using the term "grandfathered" in.

Cool then I'm covered according to NELP. I will still wait and see.
Thanks for the rapid response Northjersey, wish I had money for Springsteen tickets to give you.

LOL Rant and rave away TrendCat. I am glad to see that there is good conversation going on here I was worried people might not take to it so quickly.
This was originally posted by Mr. NewJersey and I thought it was worth copying and posting here.
Thats really interesting and I don't see any reason that NJ wouldn't adopt a very similar strategy for paying out benefits. The only problem is, how if at all will Tiers I , and Tier II be extended and administered. It will be even more interesting seeing how this plays out in the next weeks to come.
I also found a link to the Finance Committee or Senate Committee on Finance. The S.1647 bill has been referred to the Committee and was introduced back on August 7th and has not received any more attention. There are 23 Senators on the Committee Sen. Max Baucus D-MT Phone# is 1-202-224-2651, Sen. Charles Grassley R-IA Phone# 1-202-224-3744, Sen. Jeff Binaman D-NM Phone# 1-202-224-5521, and Sen. Jim Bunning R-KY Phone# 1-202-224-4343. Now those are just four of the 23 that i think we really need to get on the phone with and start telling them how it is great the HR3548 got passed but what about the others that are going to be left out that still desperately need help. Check out this link to see the other Senators U.S. Congress Senate Committee on Finance - GovTrack.us
Congress passed and President Obama signed a bill that adds a third "tier" to the current Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program.
The third "tier" of EUC will provide up to 13 more weeks of benefits to applicants who have exhausted both EUC Tier I and Tier II benefits. Tier I provides up to 20 weeks of benefits and Tier II has provided up to 13 weeks of benefits (the Bill also adds one week to EUC Tier II bringing it up to a maximum of 14 weeks).
The first week for which benefits are available under this Bill is the week beginning 11-8-09. Eligible applicants will first request payment for the "14th week" of Tier II and then, if they’re still eligible, be automatically moved to EUC Tier III.
Applicants who have already exhausted EUC Tier II and are currently receiving Federal-State Extended Benefits (EB) will be removed from the EB program and required to request the "14th week" of EUC Tier II and then moved to EUC Tier III. If the applicant later exhausts EUC Tier III benefits, he or she will then move back to the EB program.
Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program staff will make the necessary adjustments to applicants’ benefit accounts so that all applicants can request benefits from the correct program as soon as benefits are available. Applicants who are affected by this change will be notified by mail.
